  • How to increase the number of days per week that I run/ Also muscle soreness?

I have been running about 3 to 4 days per week since October. I have slowly been increasing my miles each week. My longest run is 8 miles but generally I do 3-6 miles each time. (I was fine after 7 miles but I think 8 really did a number on me) I generally do about 12 to 15 miles per week. I would like to increase my running from every other day (with some elliptical training on off days) to a daily thing or like 6 days per week. The thing is that my muscles are constantly sore, especially the backs of my thighs and my glutes. I also get shin splints from time to time. The soreness isn't horribly painful or debilitating but it's just always there. Does it ever go away? Usually it goes after about a half mile of running, but later I do feel sore. I don't want to stop but I am wondering when the soreness goes away. I stretch before and after I run. Hot baths help some for a while and so does advil but will I ever get to the point where my muscles will get used to this? (I'm 38)
