  • A new car available in the UK without a central console between the front seats?

I am looking for small 3-door car to purchase in the UK with an automatic gearbox, but which has a clear floorspace between the front passenger seat and the driver's seat. This is for a driver who is a wheelchair user, who's preferred method is to transfer from the wheelchair into the passenger seat and then slide into the driving seat from where the chair is folded and pulled into the car behind the passenger seat. It has to have an automatic gearbox, but the accelerator and brake can be floor mounted as usual, as the driver uses a tried and tested adaptation system for hand control of the two floor pedals. There used to be a Honda Civic model with this design but they have stopped making it. The passenger seats do not have to be a continuous "bench" (although they could be). The car needs to be of standard height off the ground, i.e. not raised like most people carriers are. Any useful suggestions about currently available models would be welcome.

Please don't suggest alternative ways of accessing the driver seat (of which there are many) as this is the preferred method. Thank you all for your help.

  • How can I test for rust (iron oxide) at home?

I have a problem with rust-coloured staining on a newly rendered wall in a new-build house. The builder says it is caused by sap leaking from the wood cladding which sits above the rendered wall (which has been there for 8 months.) Between the wood and the rendered part is a strip of galvanised steel. I suspect the staining comes from the steel. I need to know to get rid of it. I have scraped off a sample of the red powdery stuff - is there some way I can test this at home to see if it is rust? I have searched the internet without success and a chemical analysis lab wants hundreds of pounds to even look at it...
