  • I have a reddish, bumpy rash on the back of my hand after coming back from Florida. What could this be?

Hi, to escape the cold New York I went down to Florida for a week and though it wasn't to warm I did get a good amount of sun. My face got a little red but no burning and the rest of me was fine but I noticed this morning a red rash with small bumps all along the back of my hand. I'm currently on Accutane so my skin is extremely dry and last night I put on moisturizer which only aggravated my skin more (mainly my face but it was on the hand). The rash is mainly on one hand but I also have red spots with very dry skin in other places. Is this sun poisoning? What can I do to treat this and how can I avoid it?

  • Will they shape my gums after I get my braces off?

I've had braced for four and a half years and I have a fairly gummy smile. I know one of my friends had his gums shaped when they took his braces off but I didn't know if that was regular practice or something special they did for him. How do they shape my gums and how should I get them ready?

  • Do the baking instructions change if I substitute shortening with oil?

I'm baking a cake from scratch (wish me luck) and I'm going to substitute oil for shortening. Can I actually do that? I only found a few forums saying so. The instructions say to cream sugar and shortening. What do I do if I use oil again? I'm doubting I can cream the 2 so should I just mix them?

    And help and links welcome!

  • Should I be worried about my skin not reacting to sunlight?

So, on Thursday I went to a water park and slapped on some sun screen around 10:30. I never reapplied and spent the whole day in the sun. One arm got burned a bit the other one picked up some reddish color. Not bad though. My torso is just as pale as when I started. I mean, wearing SPF 30 for 6 hours going on water rides and not even a burn. I'm a little weirded out by this. My arms reacted a bit but, I feel like this isn't normal.

    Oh wait. I'm Irish.

  • Would you consider Pride and Prejudice a satire?

Hi, I was listening to someone talk about Jane Austen and she called her a satirist. She brought up the the movie Pride and Prejudice was bad because it didn't portray the book as mocking society and social standards. Her view was that Austen wrote the novel to poke fun and a mock society. My friend completely disagrees and won't accept that view. She believes its a foolish claim unless you think every work of Austen in satire.

So, people who have read the book, is it a satire? or is my friend right?

  • How do I beat an egg into a mixture?

I've decided to attempt making cookies from scratch with a recipe I found online. The only issue is one of the directions calls for beating in individual eggs and then vanilla. How do I do that? Is it simply cracking an egg in and mixing it in then another one, and another one? Or is there some skill required?

  • Anyone else a 2-year answerer like me?

Hi! Today is my -disregard my profile- 2 year yahoo! Answers anniversary. It's weird thinking 2 years about only Level 4 reached, but I should hit level 5 by this month so no worries there. I can remember starting off here and trying to find my niche and then finding another one.. and another one.. and finding one yesterday. I also remember the old layout, and all the friends I've made. So anyone else an old -well, older- answerer like me?

  • What are the optimum proportions for a swimmer?

I was watching the Olympics and my brother and I made observations on each sport's body types. The swimmers were all tall and the gymnasts all shorter. Then he mentioned that Michael Phelps has shorter legs and a very long torso which is apparently extremely helpful. I noticed this on Michael; but, what about someone's body would make them a good swimmer in the sense of their body proportions. Legs, arms, torso, etc.

  • What defines a heat wave?

So here I am on Long Island baking in this heat wave. And I'm wondering they've been calling it a heat wave since Saturday when this all started. So is there a real time frame for a heat wave? Does it need to last a certain amount of time or just be a certain temperature? I always thought they were much longer.
