  • Cant take prenatal pills or Flintstones?!?

I am 14 weeks pregnant. I have a dr's appointment this week and will ask, but wanted some opinions from moms here.

I started taking prenatal pills this summer and pretty regularly up until I was 7 weeks. Since then I have been really sick. If I try to take pills I vomit and the Flintstones taste makes me sick as well. Honestly, I try to get calcium and eat healthy, but food is SUCH a turn off to me that I tend to eat chicken noodle soup and bread to keep it down.

Im really nervous Im doing something detrimental to my baby and really want to take pills, but every time I try I get sick and end up dehydrated. Any advice or words of encouragement?!

  • Britax Marathon or Sunshine Kids Radian?

My husband and I are expecting our first child and we want the safest car seat. Im not sure what the pros and cons of both of these are or if anyone has seen anything in consumer reports (good or bad) regarding these.

Any info would be great. I also heard the Sunshine kids expires 8 years whereas Britax is 6 years after, but Im not sure if that true.

    Any input would appreciated!

  • 47inch closet door opening?

I have no doors on one of my closets because the previous owner removed them and left it open. The dimensions are 47x81 making it an odd size.

I really want bifold doors (not sliding- we hate them) to maximize space, but am on a really limited budget. Im handy, but do not have tools to resize the opening nor could afford someone coming in to do it. Therefore, custom doors arent an option. My husband tells me to hang a sheet, but I tell him thats not an option.

If anyone knows how to get bifold doors in there in a cheap way I'd be very grateful!

  • Possibility of pregnancy?

I know this is asked a lot and I apologize, but I've been looking for already asked answers similar to mine and havent found anything yet. I want some personal experiences.

Im on the nuvaring, but am planning on going off it in a month so we can TTC. It'd be ironic if it happened when we were being really careful!

Anyway, I got the flu last week. I was nauseous, congested, fever, fatigued etc. Oddly, even though I've had 12 hours of sleep each night Im not getting better as fast as normal.

My last period (July17) was strange. It started a day and a half late (odd since Im on the nuvaring and I know when its coming) and light. I took a pregnancy test and it was negative so I put another ring in.

Yesterday I had an incredible headache, which could be the flu, but it feels just like the one I get prior to my period.

I also had HORRIBLE menstrual cramping, but Im not due for my period for a couple weeks and I never, ever get cramping before it.

Lastly, there is a really tender sore spot this morning where the cramping was. Its a few inches below my belly button and if you push its really sore.

Again, sorry for the question everyone asks, but I've never felt this way before and I"ve had the flu numerous times. I also am not due for my period for a long enough time that its odd to experience these things, especially on the Nuvaring.

    Thanks!

  • Flu, Cold, Sinus infection?

I have been sick for 4 days with not a whole lot of improvement. Decongestants rarely make me feel better and if they do at all, lasts about half the time. I have been taking care of myself by staying hydrated, taking Vitamin C and sleeping about 12 hours each night the past 4 days. I had no choice as I took off from work from such exhaustion.

    My other symptoms:

    Sudden onset

Sore throat (then was just itchy after 2 days)

    Nausea

Low grade fever for 3 days

Congestion which is better now, but now I have never ending phlegm and cough

    Dizziness

    headache across forehead

Although Im better, for all the sleep there isnt as much improvement as I typically have. I hate going to the Dr. so that I can pay a copay for them to tell me its a virus. However, if its a sinus infection I know I should go.

    Thanks

  • Have a baby now or wait?

First, I know this is a decision for my husband and I to make and we feel strongly about our decision. Nonetheless, we would like others opinions in case we havent thought of something.

I am a 27 year old grad student in teaching. I will have an internship this year from Sept to June. The area I am in is promising and most likely will be hired in Sept of 2010.

We own a house, have little to no debt, and own 2 dogs. I will have no school loan debt when I graduate from school. However, we live off of my husbands income due to me being in school.

We've been married for 3 years (together 7 1/2 years) and ever since we were married we have wanted a child. It just was never "good timing" with moving and going to school.

We are thinking about starting to try this fall and "hopefully" be due around July.

My issue: Im terrified about being pregnant during my internship and applying for a job while pregnant. I thought maybe waiting a year, but being pregnant my first year is bad too. My friend told me she is expecting the other day and although Im so happy for her, I burst into tears when I got home. I am so jealous!

Just wondering what thoughts people have?

  • Dog started limping 2 days after playing?

First, YES, we are going to the vet Tuesday.

About 4-5 days ago our 2yo giant breed dog was let out to play with a shepherd. They ran around a ton. When we left he was walking fine, no limping, got in the car, etc. The following day he slept all day because he was so tired. 2 days AFTER playing with the shepherd, and with no playing in between really, he started limping and wont put pressure on his back hind leg. I checked his paw and toes and there is nothing in it.

It seems to be worse when he wakes up. It hasnt gotten much better since this happened several days ago, although sometime he still tries to run in the house which could aggravate it. He was 100% healthy prior to this.

We're just wondering, from others experience, if its most likely a sore hip or he tore something.

  • Sick from being off Birth control or pregnant?

    1. Yes Im going to the dr- no need tell me that

    2. I know you should be off bc for a while. My husband and I were thinking of becoming pregnant this summer, but earlier is always welcome.

So, I am on the nuvaring and took it out my 4th week (Dr said its ok). This would have been 2/6. I had my period and instead of putting a new ring in, I left it out. We've had sex without any other protection two times.

Now, my thinking is that its WAY too early to be nauseaus if Im pregnant (and probably am not?). Is this nauseau and feeling of sickness when I even think of food most likely to stopping BC or being pregnant. Again, Im not looking for a definitive answer, just curious about your opinions before I go to the dr.

  • 10 month old digressing in potty training?

We have a 10 month old giant breed. She is healthy and has no UTI's or other issues. We recently got another dog and although she shows food aggression, they play and have fun together.

So, she has been housetrained and trustworthy to let roam the house (only when we are here, she is in the crate when we're gone). The last week or so, instead of barking to go out she will wander upstairs and poo/poop on the stairs or in our spare bedroom.

    Any ideas why?

  • Help new dog adjust to new situation?

We just adopted a large (160 lb) male. He was raised in a great family with kids, then was in a kennel for a month, now is in our home. He tends to only want to lay in the small bathroom and is afraid of our younger (10 months) female dog.

My question is: Do I let him be and adjust? Or do I show him there is nothing to be afraid of and not allow him in the bathroom? He has been here a week so obviously a very short period of time. I just want to make sure we are doing the best thing for everyone. What would the dog whisperer do? Lol

  • Dog has food aggression with new dog?

We have a 9 month old (female) puppy we've had since 8 weeks. She has NO food aggression with people and in fact, she tends to bring it to people. We recently brought home a 2 1/2 yo male. They met prior to us taking him, they met on neutral territory, we have taken precautions to prevent this (took away all her bones and give treats seperately).

THe problem? Our 9 mo goes after our 2 yo if she even smells food. So if we walk in the door with food for ourselves, she smells it and goes after. He DO feed them at the same time but with a gate between them. We are careful, but it happens. Then he is so afraid of her he wont come out of the corner.

So, does anyone have any ideas how to stop her behavior? I understand they are adjusting but how do I teach in a safe manner that her behavior is not acceptable?

  • Very thirsty-odd for me?

I have been tested for diabetes, pregnancy (not trying though), and had my thyroid tested. Everything is fine although I have a UTI.

Anyway, Im 26 and for all my life I just never was a thirsty person. Even during my athletic days it was torture to drink enough water or more than 18 oz a day. I know that is bad, but its just how I am.

So for the last 6 weeks I've been incredibly thirsty. Could this be the UTI or just me changing? Im drinking probably drinking 60 oz a day and when I dont Im so thirsty I can barely stand it.

  • 2nd dog now or later?

My husband and I have different views on when to get our second dog although we both want another (but not a puppy, older male). I would like the opinions of those that have 2. Our current dog is 10 months and is calm, trained, and loves dogs. Obviously this is for us to decide, but I just want to see how others are thinking.

    My husband thinks:

Wait another 2-3 years when are incomes are higher (I'm a student, he is not)

Wait until our dog is older

We wont be able to travel much with two

We will have a more difficult time visiting people

He is also nervous that when he works from home (one crated, one in the kitchen) they will cause a stir and bark

Cost- more food, picking up the lawn

    My thinking:

Its better to do as a young adult rather than when she is 3-4 years old

Although it'd be great to have more income, we are fine financially

Although Im a student, I am home throughout the day and more often now than I will be when working full time. Another reason I think she needs a friend.

Our pup is extremely attached to us (mostly me) and have had trainers work on seperation anxiety. Nothing is working really and they suggest another dog (not why we want one, but a factor)

We are planning on having kids in the near future and I think its much better to have two dogs get adjusted NOW rather than have a child, then bring in another dog. And if we waited until he wants, it will be a toddler plus a new dog. I think that would be extremely overwhelming for her.

With her being so attached to me, she gets upset when I am not around or we dont go on our walks. I think she will get depressed when we have kids.

I have spoken to the breeder and others that own this breed and all have said 2 are better than 1. They entertain themselves and are not so dependent upon the owners.

  • Kennel Cough and visiting family?

So we are kind of in a tough spot. Our 9 month old puppy showed signs of kennel cough Thursday evening and night. We took her to the vet Friday morning and they gave her meds. Her cough is pretty much gone already as we caught it really early.

The problem is that we are going to my families house on Thursday and my in-laws on Friday. Both houses have dogs and both are out of town. If she is contagious then we can't go anywhere for Christmas and seeing family is out of the question. Our vet said he'd expect her to be fine, but everything Im reading says otherwise.

So is she likely to spread it to the other dogs? Is christmas off this year?

  • Mini Vacation in Maine with Dog?

I really would like to get away in Maine during the summer.

I've tried looking online, but would like advice from people that know the area.

Here is the ideal thing (of course it doesnt have to have all)

    1. DOG FRIENDLY!!! Beaches that allow dogs would be awesome as well as towns that are accepting

    2. Nice beaches

    3. Local attractions such as shops, dining, etc.

    4. Bars or pubs would be nice but we are not looking for an area with tons of night life. More low key would be great.

    5. Close to the Lobster festival would be ideal but not mandatory

Anyone that knows places like this or close to (or those that arent dog friendly) is appreciated!

  • Skin under eyebrow ripped off from wax?

A (licensed) friend of mine waxed my eyebrows. I have seen her more than a dozen times but today a layer of my skin ripped off. I looks like two huge triangles underneath my brow. It obviously stings.

My question is what can I put on it- the aloe I have stings a ton.

Is it going to scar OR will it scab?

Im wondering if I should go someplace tomorrow to speak with someone about getting special skin care products to help it? Suggestions?

  • Strange question- puppy had runs, cant get smell out!?

Ok, so we brought our puppy home from getting spayed (mind you, she is a giant breed so she is 7 months and 110 lbs). She was sleeping on our coach and got startled so she jumped up and started barking. At this point she had some diarrhea. I scrubbed the couch and it came out just fine- no stains. But there is this horrific smell to the couch now! Not to be gross, but this is worse than anything ever before. I think its from the anesthesia because it kinda of smells like the vet.

We already tried OUT and Natures miracle... and its still there! I can't even sit on it!

What should we do? Its brand new.... :(

  • Puppy no longer will sleep through night in crate?

We brought our puppy home at 8 weeks, she is now 6 months. We have crate trained her from day 1 and never used it as punishment and always rewarded her (toys, treats) for going in. All of June/July, she slept through the night beautifully. The last 3-4 weeks she will get up in the middle of the night and go out and then proceed to not want to go back in the crate near the bedroom. She will refuse to go upstairs, or she will go upstairs then bark and whine and wander around. Obviously, we would never force her in the crate, but no food works. Lately, she gets up at 3am and keeps my husband or I up for an hour (sometimes 2!) with this nonsense.

In case someone asks: Her diet is the same, we feed her the same times, literally everything is the same. She gets lots of exercise throughout the day so she is pretty tired by the evening.

We don't know what to do, but we are getting so exhausted and grumpy from this!

  • Where to buy a giant breed crate online?

We have a giant breed puppy that only has another month for before her 48" crate (this is an XL usually) is too small and we want to buy the biggest one we can get (54").

I've looked on craigslist for months to no avail and petsmart in area does not sell ones this large.

Anyone have good websites I could order one from?
