Jehovah's Witnesses, does your New World Translation contain books rejected during the Nicene council?
I'm just curious how you adhere to 1st century Christianity.
7 AnswersReligion & Spirituality8 years agoMy girlfriend didn't include me in family plans Christmas day.?
We spent Christmas Eve together and a lot of time before and after Christmas. I try to include her in everything, and when I don't, I let her know what I am doing. I don't need to be involved in everything she does, but I get the impression I'm really not the first thing on her mind. We ran into her ex-husband a few months ago and she was in tears for half an hour. Literally. I am willing to give it time because we get along well, I just don't really think she's into me. She says she loves me but I think its lip service. I think she's just concerned that I may be the best thing she'll find. While that may be true, I want to be with someone who really wants to be with me.
3 AnswersPsychology8 years agoJunior, have you read Mark1:4?
Because you just said in an answer that nowhere in the Bible does it talk about baptism for the remission of sins. I did a quick Google and found these -
Mark 1:4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.
Acts 2:38 Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 22:16 And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.
I'm just sayin'
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoAtheists and Christians, what do we agree on?
Should we respect life?
Do we allow abortion and if so, under what circumstances?
What do we do about human suffering?
How do we best help those in need?
How do we encourage self-reliance and not promote generational poverty?
Do Christians and Atheists really think all that differently about these kinds of questions?
15 AnswersReligion & Spirituality9 years agoIs it possible that bananas help with seasonal allergies?
I have been suffering terribly the last few weeks with my spring allergies. I take Alavert every day and have been taking two a day over the last week. I bought some bananas yesterday and noticed my allergies are substantially less debilitating. It could be that pollen counts are just coming down, but I have not eaten a banana in months and wonder if the vitamins in them could have possibly helped. Any thoughts?
2 AnswersAllergies1 decade agoCatholics only please - will you help me understand the Beatification of the Pope?
Our local news said that part of the reason Pope John Paul II is being moved toward beatification more quickly than normal was partly because a Nun prayed to the Pope to heal her parkinson's disease and her parkinson's was healed. That is considered a miracle so the Pope could become a saint.
I think that is a nice story, but I thought we were supposed to pray to God. Why would a Nun pray to a Pope? And why not a Pope that is deceased? Is there a scripture that the Catholic church relies on for this kind of doctrine? A more thorough explanation that what I heard on the news would be nice if you have it. Thanks.
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoChristians who are under Grace - Do you have golden calves in your homes and pray to Satan?
Someone just answered another question saying you are under Grace and so the old laws of the Old Testament don't apply, so I wondered how many of the 10 commandments, among others you break on a regular basis, I mean because you are under Grace and all, it sounds like it doesn't matter.
This is a serious question.
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoSola Scriptura? Aren't protestants that accuse Catholics of changing church doctrine just as guilty?
The Bible doesn't say anywhere that it is complete or error free, so when the protestants came up with the idea of sola scriptura, how was that any different than what they accuse the Catholics of when they say the Catholic church spent centuries creating doctrine that was contrary to the Bible? Because the Bible does not claim to be inerrant or complete, then it isn't, and by creating dogma that says it is, is wrong. How do these people sit in those churches on Sunday and walk out feeling good about what they've just experienced?
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoChristians: When you got married, did your wife or your husband disappear?
I'm trying to understand the Trinity and found the following -
Ephesians 5:31 For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 32 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church.
and...
Mark 10:8 And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh.
Matthew 19:6 Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.
From the answers I read here on Yahoo! Answers I also make some assumptions -
1) The Bible is infallible.
2) The Bible is inerrant.
3) Because of 1 and 2, I must take the Bible for what it says.
Because God and Jesus are the same person, I'm wondering if these same references regarding husband and wife indicate that the two are really only one and the idea that there are two people in a marriage must come to and end because there really can only one be one person in a marriage.
If there is a difference between God/Christ and Husband/Wife, how can you justify that? If God and Jesus are the same person, then a man and wife must also be the same person. If man and wife are separate beings, then God and Jesus must also be separate beings. Just curious how you rationalize that these two obviously identical comparisons are different.
4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoChristians, do you repent?
Several New Testament verses say that repentance is required, but if you repent, then why are you saved by Grace? If Grace is sufficient, then why does the New Testament tell you to repent?
Matthew 3:2
And saying, Repent ye: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.
Luke 13:5
I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.
Acts 17:30
And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:
Revelation 3:19
As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoChristians: How can you say things like this?
One of you just posted this answer to a question:
"Maybe this verse spoken by Jesus will answer your question......
Joh 6:44 No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day.
There is nothing you can do of yourself to get closer to God. Just be open and earnest toward God and he will draw you closer."
Nothing you can do? Except be open and earnest? Then there is something you can do and must do to draw closer to God. I see this kind of answer all the time. Which is it? You don't have to do anything? or you do??
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDoes the Bible tell us that our works will not get us into Heaven?
I hear this claim made all the time, but the Bible also says the following -
James 2: 14, 17-18, 20-22, 24-26
14 What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?
• • •
17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
• • •
20 But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?
21 Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?
22 Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?
• • •
24 Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.
25 Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?
26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.
Revelation 2: 19, 23, 26
19 I know thy works, and charity, and service, and faith, and thy patience, and thy works; and the last to be more than the first.
• • •
23 And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.
• • •
26 And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations:
These scriptures clearly tell us that Christ knows what we do and blesses us when we keep the commandments. People say that they only have to believe and that they've been saved. Christ says that "Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only" and that he will "give everyone of you according to your works" among others. When James asks the question "Can faith save him?" that is a rhetorical question, the answer is no.
Christians, it seems you have a conflict whether you want to admit it and own up to it or not. Please explain.
10 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoI don't like the taste of saffron. Is there a way to include this in a dish that is amazing?
I know it is popular to put saffron in the rice for paella, but I just find that the flavor is sort of metallic, no matter where I have something that has saffron in it. Is there anything amazing I am missing out on?
4 AnswersCooking & Recipes1 decade agoWhy do the actions of a 50 member church influence the world?
50 people do not make a difference so is there just an enormous amount of propaganda in the middle east?
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow many eskimos does it take to ruin a song?
6 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoWhy don't Christians see Christianity as a religion that has fallen apart?
From the time of Christ, Christianity has done nothing but change. The original church transformed into the Catholic Church, the Catholic Church has been transformed by some into multiple religions that all claim to be Christian, but none agree on doctrine and make claims that the others aren't even Christian. They claim the Bible is perfect and unchangeable, but yet they can't agree or get along.
Does that sound like a religion anyone would want to be a part of or a religion that a loving God would allow to happen?
Serious answers please.
16 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoChanging the text of the Bible question?
Revelation 22:18-19 tells us that anyone who adds to or takes away from "this Book" will be subject to the curses spoken of in the book.
Do Christians realize that this verse applies to Revelation only?
We do not know when The Revelation was written relative to the other books in the Bible. The New Testament is a compilation that was combined at a much later time.
I read here frequently for example, that the Book of Mormon adds to the Bible and therefore the Mormon Church cannot be a Christian Church. The reality is that Joseph Smith clarified scriptures in the Bible, but in terms of "adding" to them, it is a moot point because those verses only apply to the books they are written in.
Any Bible scholar will acknowledge that the verses in the Bible that make references to not adding to or taking away from those books apply only to those books and no others. Here is a link to just one example -
