  • My son will soon be stationed in Germany and needs to have a cell phone that will have unlimited use.?

I have done limited research and found that Verizon offers international service for two phones the cost is $140 a month and the iphone 5 is $199 each for 2. Hope to find out if this would provide the coverage we want. I will pay that amount but cheaper would be appreciated if available. Anyone have any experience with this situation. Please advise. Many thanks in advance for answers

  • My son is leaving next week for Army Basic Training and then on to AIT for Combat Medic Training?

We are having a farewell party this Saturday for family and friends. We are attending church on Sunday where he is being Baptized. I am PROUD and SAD to see him leave. This is a huge step in growing up for him. When leaving for Basic Training what do you need to take along? His recruiter does not seem to offer much advice other than to look in his packet of material. I asked for his graduation date from Basic Training and the paper is incorrect. His training dates have been changed. I know my son will not be allowed to contact me once he ships out, for a few weeks so I wanted to get those answers in advance. My son is supposed to take $50 cash. I wondered if he could use a gift card to McDonalds? He will be flying to Missouri and will be at an Airport for a while I am sure. If anyone has an experience with leaving for Basic Training let me know any lessons you learned. I would appreciate any advice given.

  • Need some help in writing a short presentation for two police officers that helped save my life?

I was involved in a near death motor vehicle accident a few months ago. The two first responders that arrived cut my seat belt and got me out of my over turned vehicle. They really saved me from further injury by doing that and are going to be awarded a life saving award next week. I am thrilled to have been asked to present the awards. I am horrible at public speaking and wonder if anyone has any suggestions to help me present these awards best. I know saying thank you is just not enough. I am still recovering but lots better at this point. This ceremony is during a town hall meeting so I will have just a few minutes to talk. Need to use the best words possible in the short period of time I will be granted. Thanks for any help offered.

  • Do parenting issues with step-kids cause marital issues? Do you require accountability? Frustrating!?

Just wanted to see if any other parents hold their college age children accountable for their social activities. My son and step-son are both attending the local community college and living at my home. My 19yr old son is expected to, and always informs me of his plans for dating, going out with friends, shopping, movies, dinner, etc. I know from being a teen myself, years ago, that he may lie about where he is or plans to go, but he always calls me to let me know. My husband does not check with his son in regards to his activities. We leave for work and leave him in bed, and sometimes his son will show up until 10:30 or 11pm on a weeknight, without having been seen all day. He is a fairly good student so his dad does not feel the need to inquire about his plans or his whereabouts. I like accountability and would like to know if he is one a date or shopping or traveling to another town. I have stated my dislike for this parenting, but nothing will change. His son just thinks of me as the wicked step-mom. This parenting issue is causing stress in our marriage. There are lots of other stresses in my marriage, but this is a big one for me.

  • how much would you expect car insurance to go up if you are 18 with 3 traffic violations?

We are from North Carolina. My son is 18 yrs old and have not been driving very safely. He has received 2 tickets for failure to stop at a stop signs. It was snowing a few weeks ago and he rear-ended a truck and pushed it into another SUV. The damages were estimated at $1000 for each vehicle and his car was barely damaged in the front so it will not be fixed. He thinks a lawyer can get him out of all these charges. The insurance company has not sent me a new bill yet and I will be afraid to open it when it arrives. I had often heard insurance triples for an accident so I wondered if that is the usual fees?

  • Is there a good way to load a difficult horse into a trailer?

I recently have been tending to a friends horses. Her husband passed away about 2 months ago and they have a large farm with 6 horses and 1 mule. She planned on taking a few of them to a sale this past weekend. I have spent many hours in the past 2 months with the 2 mares and the mule. The three of them would allow me to touch them and trusted me. They were all 2 years old and not broken. My friend had 2 men lined up to load the horses and take them to the auction. They had asked me to be present just in case they had any difficulty. During the past 2 months I have spent gaining their trust they have learned that I am gentle and calm and know what to expect. These men did not ask for help when they got to the trailer the first horse fought for a while and hit her head on the side of the trailer a few times. These mares are sisters and were found side by side in their pasture always. She loaded and then watching these men load the sister was horrible. She hit her head repeatedly on the trailer and broke a few ropes and I thought her halter was going to come off with her pulling back. I am not an experienced horse handler but I wanted to try and figure out a better way to accomplish this without endangering anyone. I think if I would have gone into the trailer beside the other horse she may have come on in without all the yelling and hitting that was going on. This was horrible to witness. I think that they should have worked with her more patiently. They were already late for the auction and did not want to wait any longer. I think a scoop of grain or some hay may have worked? I am worried that the 2 months of teaching them to trust someone to touch them may have been ruined in this loading process. They did sale and they were both purchased as a pair so that made me feel somewhat better. Maybe I don't have the emotional strength to watch a difficult horse load? I think I could have done much better without these men and their ride would have started off much better. The mule climbed into the trailer without any problem and was sold to a rodeo manager. Anyone got any tricks to loading that works most of the time. I have bought a horse from my friend but she assures me he will go anywhere I go and loading is a piece of cake with him.

  • A mans claim to alimony?

When I inquired about getting a divorce I have learned that I will be at risk to pay alimony to my husband should we divorce. After living with me and taking full advantage of me paying for nearly everything for the past 2 years that will work against me. The divorce attorney stated that he can claim he needs spousal support to survive. Does anyone know a good divorce attorney in North Carolina? The attorney I meet with did not seem to have any good news for me. If I get out now instead of holding on longer I will only have to pay alimony for 1/2 of the time frame of the marriage. Does anyone have any experience with a man requesting alimony and the court granting it? I hope the court looks at the full picture and would tell him no, but the attorney says that will most likely not occur.

  • I would appreciate opinions in regards to getting a divorce due to financial reasons?

My husband and I got married about 18 months ago. I guess that is what "forever" may be for the two of us. He actually thinks things are going great for us despite my complaints about bills being managed. I do make more money than he does, but he recently got his 2 houses rented and has an increase in his cash flow. He had promised to help out more when the homes rented but nothing has changed. I pay our mortgage, electric, water, internet and phone, and buy most of the groceries. He moved into my house with his 18 yr old son. I also have an 18 year old son. My monthly grocery bill is about $500. I do purchase animal treats for our dogs and he complains about that too. He agreed to pay our cell phone bill and the cable bill. We have a non-contract cell phone now and $30 a month is handed to me with reluctance only if I ask and remind him to reimburse me. We agreed to divide the car insurance with both of us paying 6 months out of the year. My turn is coming up and I really get a curled up lip and told him that I agreed to that division before he moved into my home. I told him I had no idea he would not be helping out with other bills when I agreed to that arrangement. I made an appointment with a divorce attorney for this week. I am unsure what rights I have. I am buying my house from my father and it is in his name. I have been paying him for the past 8 years and that is unchanged from when I got married. I think I could end this easily if my heart did not love him, but in a small way I still do. I am not feeling like I did when we got married. I feel used financially. Now his son is going to college and he is going to need even more money for that. I had hoped things would improve, but yesterday I had a message on my phone in regards to a home loan that my husband had inquired about. I think he is planning on borrowing money to help pay his son's way to college. I don't want to be responsible for those loans. I may file for divorce before he signs for any loans to make sure my name is not on the repayment plan. Anyone got some advice for me? If you have had some financial problems that lead to divorce I would love to hear advice.

  • Was the Reserves a good job? Did the benefits make it a good choice?

My son wishes to be a military police officer. There are no jobs for him right now in the Army. By joining the reserves he can get the training for that field while attending college for criminal justice. We have a meeting tomorrow with the recruiter but I wanted to get as much information as possible for my son to make the best decision. Thanks for all answers. How is the pay?

  • My husband recently rented his home. Is a wheelchair ramp mandatory at a rental house?

We hired a rental agency to manage this property. They told us the people included a sickly, elderly man with cancer, and his middle aged daughter and granddaughter. Those 3 people moved in about 2 months ago. Today we got a call that the man fell and required 80 stitches. They have requested a wheelchair ramp to be provided by us. When they moved into the home no mention was made of the need for a wheelchair access. The man drives a TV company van ( I won't mention the company name) and appears to be gainfully employed by this company. They stated they wished to purchase the property soon after moving in but offered a verbal bid that was $40,000 below our asking price. My husband and I do not thing we need to build a ramp at this time. We told the family they could do so themselves and pay for it themselves. This was not mentioned prior to the lease being signed so are we required to build this structure for this family? Anyone dealt with issues like this before? I goggled this question but could not find any information of value.

  • My neighors dog died yesterday and they are upset with me. I had attempted to help.?

Since the moment my neighbor got his dog I looked after her frequently without being asked. I am an animal lover and have 3 dogs and 2 cats of my own that are well cared for. My neighbor got this dalmation from his sister about 8 yrs ago. She had him promise that he would take good care of her since he had a history of neglecting pets. Over the past 8 yrs the dog has been neglected repeatedly. There was a dog house with the front missing and no appropriate shelter in their yard. I had gotten a Little Tike's playhouse a few winters ago and set it up for shelter. I would go and get loose hay from the feed store to make it warmer. This dog had a litter of puppies about 5 years ago so she did have some company to play with, because they kept 1 of the litter. Often this man and his daughter would not be home after work until very late in the evening. I would go over and give the dogs water and food in the evening. I can not recall ever seeing this man or daughter outside in the yard with their dogs. I did not check on a daily basis and the dogs were not frail and thin so I know they have been feeding them. Last week I noticed the dalmation was looking very sickly. She was thin except for a swollen abdomen. She could barely stand up. Knowing that their needs were usually not being met by their owners I got a worming pill and gave it to the dogs. I treated both of them. I checked 3 days later and she was able to stand and come to get petted on her head for a while. I notified my neighbor that night that I had treated his animals. He expressed anger because

I had not asked first, and he thought his daughter was taking care of her. Knowing their history of ignoring these dogs I felt it was unlikely she had done anything. I did not go and check on her again and had not seen her in 3 days. Last night the daugher called me to say the dog had died and she was quite ugly to me. She blames me for giving this dog medicine. I feel horrible and very sad, but thought I was doing the right thing at the moment. I simply told her "that what I did had not killed the dog, but what they did not do was the cause". I wish I had an autopsy report to support my feelings. If they were good animal owners they would have taken her to a vet for care. The end result would have most likely been the same, however, in hindsite I wish I could have done more. Perhaps her suffering would not have been prolonged. What do you think about this situation? I am trying not to feel guilty.

  • Anyone ever used an emergency veterinarian and gotten charged a tremendous amount?

Arrived home and found my cat in serious condition after being hit by a car. I called my vet and got forwarded to an emergency service. The clinic opens at 6pm and closes at 8am. This service was appreciated, however, the charges were so very high that I felt taken advantage of this morning. My cat has a fractured jaw and needed pain meds and x-rays. I was warned that the charge of $75 was to be seen and then the other charges would be explained. The first estimate I was presented was $900 (as was several other people's waiting with their sickly animals). I asked for some unnecessary charges to be removed and the next offer was $500 so I signed on the line. I contacted the doctor last night and got a poor prognosis but was told to make sure we arrived before 8am and get Gizmo immediately to her regular vet. We did that and the cat is having surgery today and got a relatively good prognosis from my regular vet if the surgery was done. I paid $498 for some pain meds, x-rays and a $65 bag of IV fluids. I don't feel like a cheap scape but that seemed very high. Charging that much makes it difficult to find the $500 now needed for the surgery. Luckily I am gainfully employed and could afford to decide to treat this and get her repaired.

  • Not even a year has passed and I regret saying "I do". I am wondering why I rushed into this marriage?

After being alone for 11 years and raising two kids I was so very tired of dating and being left alone again and again. I wanted to meet someone that wanted to STAY and not break up with me. I met my husband and got married 5 weeks later. I believed that he would never leave me and that he truly loved me. I know part of that is true, however, we are not a good match. He moved into my home nearly a year ago with his son and has not helped with mortgage and electric bills. He buys just a small portion of the groceries and always promises to do a big grocery shopping trip soon. They both eat a plenty of food daily. He was angry with my daughter repeatedly and her dog. That causes me lots of tension. That is another story that I wrote about in the past. He has not tried to bond at all with my son. Most days he has nothing to say to him at all. He was disrespectful to my parents several times. Simple things, but hurtful when I think about his behavior. He did not get me anything for my birthday a month ago. He attempts to be loving and affectionate with me, but I feel resentful lately and do not want to be intimate. He also have problems performing without some medical assistance (viagara) and I believe he doesn't have the funds to get a refill right now. He wanted us to get a joint checking account right after we got married but I refused. I have always paid my bills and he was constantly getting phone calls from creditors because he paid things late if at all. We have not purchased anything together since we got married. He has a house that is on the market and I want to tell him to move back into it before it sells but I don't want to act hastily, when I should try to be patient. We joined the church together and sing in the choir together so we are both christians. Does any one have any ideas for me to try? Should I consider counseling for myself or both of us together? This is my second marriage so I don't want to get a divorce again. I think if I would have been smarter and waited I would not be writing this question.

  • animal cruelty displayed by husband, but he thinks it was not a big deal?

My daughter has a pit bull dog. My husband started the lawn mower weeks ago and the dog freaked out due to the noise. He acts the same way with the vacuum cleaner and bites and barks ferociously at it. That day my husband kicked the dog and knocked his wind out and he laid down for a while. The most recent incident was more difficult to handle for me. My husband was there again at his property mowing the lawn and the dog was out in the yard using the bathroom. My husband says the dog circled him a few times and then attacked him. He attempted to hit the dog with the blade of the mower to save himself, however I honestly feel that he misread the problem completely. The dog is very calm and has never attacked anyone. He plays with my 2 year old niece quite often and no display of aggression has been seen witnessed by anyone except for my husband. I feel the problem is his not the dogs. He is calling animal control and wants to have the dog taken away and put up for adoption. This is putting a wedge in our relationship between my husband and my daughter not to mention the dog that call my grandson. I am hopeful that animal control will recognize the truth of the problem and allow the dog to stay. I asked to see bite marks and of course there are not any. No contact was made by the dog. He was only biting at the big red noisy machine on the ground. Does anyone think that this behavior is abnormal? I feel that the way people treat animals says a great deal about their character and this totally upsets me.

  • Financial issues in a newly married couple?

I have always heard that finances is one of the top reasons for divorce, but I did not believe it would happen to me. I got married about 7 months ago and several things have lead me to think that my husband married me to improve his financial situation. I have a higher paying job than he does, and I have a part time job where I can make a large amount of money for a 24 hour shift on the weekends. He knew about my income before we married and I knew about his. I just had no idea that he did not pay his bills until months pass and bill collectors call multiple times. Now he tells me his credit is going bad and mine will be ruined too because we are married. I called and paid a 3 month overdue electric bill for him after that conversation. His daughter is now asking for him to co-sign a loan for $2000 for her. He is considering doing that. I am not sure the bank will approve his credit to allow him to sign. I suggested that he only sign for what he can afford to repay. His answer to that is "if she defaults, and I have to pay it I will just let other things slide". I got angry and told him that would mean it would slide into my corner and I would have to pay other bills for him. I am frustrated. He has asked me to get a joint checking account but I said "no". We don't have any loans together as of yet, but being married we are probably going to one day have to purchase something together. Anyone have any idea on how to manage this situation?

  • does anyone know about filing for custody of a 17 year old child in the state of North Carolina?

My husbands ex wife left him for another man and married the man she left him for last year. They were married for 18 years and have a 18 year old daughter and a 17 year old son. When their custody paperwork was filed the wife was supposed to take care of the daughter, and my husband was supposed to take the son. Soon after the divorce the ex wife relocated to a larger town about 3 hours away and the daughter did not wish to go so she moved in with her Dad and her brother. The ex-wife was busy and did not make any visible effort to get the daughter to come along with her. There was some painful emotional days in court during their divorce hearings, but my husband won the case and has custody of his son. Now we get notified that we are to appear in court on Friday because she is asking for custody of their son. We are providing a very stable home for this child. He is allowed to visit his mother any time he wishes. She has sent some threatening e-mails recently saying that she knows we harass him when he wishes to visit her. Can a mother request custody of her son when he is that age? He has stated that he does not wish to live with her during their divorce proceedings and that has not changed.

  • how long should the average person spend in the shower?

I recently got married and my husband his 17 year old son moved into my home. My monthly water bill has more than doubled and I think the 25 minute showers he and his son take are too long and wasteful. I recently read that Jennifer Aniston takes 6 minutes to shower, and while I wish I could even wash that quickly I am thinking about suggesting they limit their time to 10- 15 minutes. Would like to hear opinions on this issue.
