  • Guppy in fish tank is alive but floating on its side?

I m fish-sitting for a friend and one of the guppies cannot swim - it s stuck at the surface floating on its side. All the other fish seem healthy. Is the fish sick or pregnant? Can I save this fish? (its not mine so I don t want my friend s fish to die!) - is it safe to keep this fish in with the others or should I move it? What should I do!!??

  • Which Sherlock Holmes story should one read first?

I've never read any of Holmes' adventures (or anything by Arthur Conan Doyle for that matter). I was just wondering which would be the best story to start with? I know a lot of them were published as serials in magazines - are there collections available? Where to begin?

On a related note, I'd also like to see the Guy Ritchie film that just came out, but I don't want to see it if it would wind up 'ruining' the experience of reading the stories in any way. Advice!

  • Fear of dropping stuff off a balcony?

I've come to learn that I have a serious fear of dropping objects (usually cameras, cell phones, hand bags - anything you'd be holding in your hand) off a balcony or a bridge - anywhere high up. When I'm up on a balcony and holding something in my hand, I will honestly start to shake with fear and feel terrified that I will drop it off the ledge or wherever. I will either have to stand very far away from the edge, or put whatever it is I am holding in a shoulder bag or in something that is physically strapped to me. It's funny - I'm not afraid of heights or afraid of falling - just dropping stuff.

  • What is the difference between being "Queer" or being "Gay"?

Are they the same thing? If a person identifies themselves as being "Queer," does that mean they are gay, lesbian, transgendered, bisexual (or any of the other flavours in the LGBTQ etc. rainbow)? Can a person be queer and not any of the other "options"?

If you do identify as queer, what does being queer mean to you?

  • French word for "small object"?

There is a word in French Canada that roughly means "little thing" - the English equivalent would be "doohickey" or "gizmo" or "thingamajig". It sounds something like "Petante." Someone good at fixing/handling these objects is a "Petanteur/Petanteuse." What is the actual word? am I spelling it right? Help please!

  • Children's book about a hasty puppy?

Does anyone remember the title of a book/audio casette about a puppy who wouldn't slow down? The book came with the casette and a stuffed version of the puppy (who was purple!), and the story had something to do with a pillow and how the puppy kept messing things up because he wouldn't take the time to read the instructions....or something. I had a copy sometime in the early 90's.

I think his name was snaps or something similar.

    Does this ring a bell?

  • Why do you get the hiccups when you're drunk?

I don't get them often, except when I've been drinking. Why do you get the hiccups when you're drunk, and why do they act differently then when you're sober? (ie. they're slow and steady, unless alcohol is involved, then my hiccups are strong, fast and heavy!) What's the deal?

  • Dream about Maneki Neko?

I had a dream where I was told to buy an orange Maneki Neko figurine. If I treated it with respect, good things would come. I was also told to burn citrus and wood scented incense. Apparently the colours Orange and Brown were associated with me.

So, I guess my question would be where can I find an orange Maneki Neko/orange & wood incense and what does it all mean? Is there any hidden meaning behind the colour scheme?

  • Do dingos really eat babies?

...or is it just some kind of urban myth in the western hemisphere? And if they DON'T actually eat babies, where did the whole "Dingo ate my baby" thing start?

  • A church near Genoa?

Somewhere in or near Genoa, Italy (most likely in some near by village), there is a church built into the side of a cliff. I think it's in a cave or something. I was just wondering if anyone knew where it was or if it had a name.

  • If you were a hair dresser...?

...and a customer asked you to change their hair style/dye their hair to the point where they looked completely different because they were running from the law, could you be arrested for "hiding" a criminal?

    Would you do it?

  • Ugly Babies?

Has anyone ever given birth to a baby that you just KNEW was ugly? People always say that no matter what your kid looks like, the mother will think its beautiful. Have any mothers thought their kid was ugly?

What about the opposite - have you ever seen a really ugly baby that EVRYONE knew was ugly, except the mom?

Oh yes - don't bother posting if you're just going to say something about how "all babies are miracles and how can a miracle be ugly." I'm SURE there are some ugly miracles out there.

  • I'm 20, he's 63?

....and we're getting married this year. We've been together for 3 years and have known each other for 7. My parents are (finally) fine with it, and we have several friends who accept this relationship. So, why is it so hard to find people to participate in the planning of the wedding? We've had wedding planners back out because they didn't "approve" - is that ethical? Can you not plan a wedding because you don't "agree" with the couple (ie. age difference, mixed race/religion, etc.)?

  • Smallville Fans! Where do you stand with Lionel Luthor?

What do you think of him? Is he a bad guy or what - he seems to have a softer side to him - a Clark-sympathetic side that has shown up through the seasons. Is he really as bad as he once was portrayed?

  • Why would a kitten loose all its whiskers?

I just got a kitten that had all her whiskers when I brought her home. Shortly after arriving, all her whiskers fell out - all of them! They grew back a week later. This also happened to my other kitten about a year ago when we got her. I've never seen this happen before! Why would this happen? They did not scratch at their face or get them caught in anything. I can't think of why this happened! (both cats have their whiskers back now)
