Bmw 328i running U.S spec M3 camshafts?
I have a 1996 bmw 328i M52b28 single vanos. I'm trying to unleash some extra ponies by adding some performance camshafts. From the research I've done so far the common options are to use U.S spec M3 cams or Schrick cams.
I live in New Zealand so it is incredibly difficult to source U.S M3 cams and the Schrick equivalent is rather pricy.
I can get a performance regrind on my stock camshafts but will the hydraulic lifters take up the height lost on the cam lobes from grinding the cams thus making the lobe smaller?
I've tried to research further on bmw camshaft regrinds but I can only find info on m20 engines -which I am unfamiliar with.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
3 AnswersBMW7 years agoWhat's wrong with my 300zx tt?
The other day I was driving down the road and my 300zx tt manual (z32) started making a strange tinking/rubbing noise as if the compresssor wheel was rubbing on the housing of the turbo. The noise got louder and faster according to the throttle position. As I continued (couldn't stop) driving I noticed smoke coming from under the bonnet. It smelt like burning motor oil. Then the car started losing power and wouldn't boost finally it got to the point where I needed to ghange gear, I put the clutch in, RPM dropped and the car died. I wound It over nothing. Oil level was on the F mark. Water was fine too. A day later I wound the car over and it started the funny noise was gone but it couldn't idle and It wasn't running on all 6 cylinders (I'd say 4 or less). There's no oil in the intake or intercooler piping it has fuel and air checking the plugs today.
Any opinion would be great as I'm left with the common question to answer. How long is a piece of string?
Cheers.
2 AnswersNissan8 years agoHonda Civic turbo build- won't start?
Ok, so last weekend we put in a turbo kit and rebuilt motor into my mate's EG Honda Civic Sedan, it started fine and on the first try. The car is running a d15b vtec with d16a crank, pistons and conrods, a tuned ecu for 9psi, t4 turbo, intercooler, electronic boost controller etc. Today we drove it boosting at only 5psi, around town for about an hour, and on our way home the car just stopped going, almost as if the key was turned off. it was then towed home and has been inspected for faults and sadly we have found nothing. Now we have replaced the dizzy and the fuel pressure regulator, checked for blown fuses, fuel, air, compression and spark- (which all of these are fine). It just winds over and wont start. If anyone has some suggestions, or ideas it would be much appreciated, as we are now clueless to what could be wrong.
thanks in advance
3 AnswersHonda9 years agoBMW cylinder head swap?
I have a 1996 BMW e36 318i, 8 valve, manual, would it be possible to swap the 8 valve head for a 16 valve head? I have tried to do a little research on this but my efforts have produced nothing.
Is it possible to do this?
And what other items besides a new head gasket and a tool set do I need?
Thanks in advance.
2 AnswersBMW10 years agoHow do I get the most power out of a turbo diesel?
I have a 1996, 2.5L, inter-cooled turbo diesel, land rover discovery. I would like to increase the power and torque of the engine as much as possible. Besides adding a larger turbo, two turbos, or a bigger inter-cooler what can I modify, upgrade or do to the engine to achieve greater performance.
Thanks in advance.

1 AnswerBMW1 decade agoWill my bmw fit these rims?
Hi I have a 1996 bmw e36 318i, lately I've been browsing for some aftermarket rims however im not entirely sure if they will fit.
The current rims it has on the car are: 16" x 7" stud pattern 5 x 120 offset 46, they have 205 55 R16 tyres.
The rims I've picked are: 17" x 8" stud pattern 5 x 120 offset 40.
I need to know:
if the new rims with tyres on are going to fit without rubbing in the guards/fenders.
what tyres will fit these rims without rubbing.
and an opinion would be much appreciated.
The car is stock, and is NOT lowered.
Thanks in advance.
