I always do what my Rice Krispies tell me to. ") Though I may be an old dog who knows a few tricks, I'm also a proud father of five beautiful girls and a proud grand pa to another girl. Ugh! Gaud help all the other girls if I ever get a grand son. We'll go fishin', flyin', sailin', ALL the stuff a grand pa would do with his little boy. Can't wait to teach him my wisdom.

  • Need a free website for local activities?

Not from around here (never mind where I am). Looking for something to do while in town on business. Sundays are dead days and I'd like to go do something other than just sit in my hotel room.

If you know of a good website, please share. Already tried Yelp - but it had only four activities nearby, and I'm not out in the boonies.

  • Who manufactures Nissan automobiles in America?

Was watching one of those Truck TV shows. They took a Nissan Pickup Truck and removed the front end (grill and such) and put a Ford Ranger grill and such on it and didn't have to modify anything. It was a one to one swap. They turned it into a Ford Ranger.

So, do Nissan's come off the Ford assembly line in America?

  • Bait for common paper wasps?

I have a trap for yellow jackets but have more of a problem with paper wasps (PW) than anything else. I can use the same trap for either, depending on the bait used. I'm unclear on exactly what type of bait to use for the PW. I've heard some old meat or fruit, but I don't know for sure what to use.

    Your help is appreciated.

Two iMac computers. 2010 and 2011. Making 10 a second monitor?

Looking into using the older computer as a second monitor for my 2011. The Mini-DisplayPort (MDP) connectors on the back side of my 21.5 inch monitors don't have the same image over them. The 10 has what appears as a bar a box and another bar. Sort of like |[]| whereas the 11 has a lightning bolt over it. It's my guess - and this is why I ask - guessing doesn't work well, the 11 is Thunderbolt while the 10 is MDP. Is this right? Or am I making dangerous assumptions?

As said, I want to connect the two together. Would I need MDP to MDP? Thunderbolt to MDP? Or will Thunderbolt to Thunderbolt work?

  • iPhone 7, good phone? Or something you like better?

Have read a few reviews (4 of them). Half are superb and half are horrible. I've never had an iPhone and am wondering if the 7 is a good buy, or if an older phone would be better. What's your opinion?

  • Disconnect battery - throttle body cleaning question:?

Read a question someone posted about disconnecting the battery while cleaning their TB. A well known user posted that the computer can lose its memory when the battery is disconnected. I've seen that before - one way to clear codes. But the post went on to say that if the computer loses power and memory then the TB won't function. To quote: "if you have a "drive by wire" throttle body with out an accelerator cable the computer may lose it's programming when the battery is disconnected and the car won't move after reconnecting the battery."

I never heard that before. Is it true? If so - HOW so?

  • Oxygen Concentrator used on Car Intake?

Several months ago a family member passed away. Left behind was a small battery operated oxygen concentrator. Now that it is no longer being used and I live in fairly high altitude I have been wondering what would happen to engine performance if I hook up a hose to supply concentrated oxygen to the air inlet before the filter.

I'm thinking the extra oxygen will make the car seem like it's at lower altitudes, but at the same time when I take my foot off the gas I don't want oxygen building up in the intake tube. So I want to put it at the opening where the O2 can be sucked in, but if my foot is off the gas then no O2 becomes accumulated anywhere.

The goal? More engine performance. It's a four cylinder Toyota truck.

  • I-Tunes & JVC car stereo?

I just installed a JVC (model KW-R925BTS) car stereo in my truck. It has USB capabilities. My music isn on I-Tunes. When I upload my music from I-Tunes to my USB MEM chip I-Tunes includes a hidden folder that the JVC can not read.

I've been in contact with JVC and they sent me a firmware upgrade, which I have successfully installed into the stereo. However, my music is doing the same thing.

Let me explain what's going on:

I format my USB as FAT-32 (DOS) (which is the only way it will play in my stereo). I then uploaded my music. More on this in a second; because of the problems I'm having I decided to upload only one folder with only three songs. My JVC is seeing six files. File 001 plays the song. File 002 tries to play but says "NOT SUPPORTED". File 003 plays the SECOND song, file 004 tries to play but says "NOT SUPPORTED". File 005 plays the THIRD song (three of three), then tries to play file 006 which says "NOT SUPPORTED".

This is bugging the heck out of me. How do I copy my music from I-Tunes to a DOS chip without including the phantom extra files? I've already tried the disk utility and the show all hidden files command and have found the file labeled ".DS" and avoided copying that file over. So there's some phantom file that does not exist as far as DOS is concerned. My I-Tunes library doesn't show these phantoms but it also plays without any problems between files.

Does anyone know how to move these files without dragging phantoms along with them?

  • What's your opinion on the best comedy routine you've ever seen?

Personally I love the "Who's On First" routine done by Abbot and Costello.

  • Genie Garage door problem; won't operate from wall switch.?

The door opens and closes fine from the remote. But the wall switch won't open or close the door. I've checked all the wiring and everything appears good. The safety beams work, they flash when the beam is interrupted too. The light on the wall switch is lit - so I know there's power there. Can there be another problem or is it going to be the switch?

(note) simply shorting the wires together does NOT actuate the door.

Over the past few months I've not been notified of any best answers. While browsing my answer history I've discovered quite a few Best Answers and have NOT been notified of such.

  • 2009 Toyota Venza: Factory stereo with controls on the steering wheel?

I'm considering replacing the stereo in this Venza. The steering wheel has a "Mode" button which also turns the stereo on and off as well as select between AM, FM and CD (6 cd changer)(I don't use CD's any longer). Buttons that also control volume and channel/track.

I want to put an after market stereo in that has Bluetooth. I THINK (Operative word, "Think") the steering wheel controls are connected to the stereo via bluetooth.

    First question: "Is that so?"

Second question: "Can I find an after market stereo that will connect to my steering wheel controls?"

And if you have any advice, what's a good stereo to fill the bill? I want a stereo that can accept a USB memory chip with music stored on it.

    Thanks.

  • Skateboard wheel bearing ratings ABEC?

I'm getting a little creative these days. I'm planning on building a sort of skateboard. I'm looking at Razor wheels (or the likes) and see that many of these wheels come with ABEC-9 rated bearings. I've seen ABEC-7 and -11. I know the higher the rating the better the bearing.

This isn't going to get a lot of use, but it will be ridden on the streets. No jumping, no tricks, just an alternative form of transportation that can be picked up and tossed into a trunk.

All I'm interested in learning is these ABEC ratings and what's a "Good" rating. After all, an ABEC-9 might be considered a child's toy.

    Thanks.

  • How long does the typical gas fired water heater last?

We bought this house 10 years ago. The former owner (Mr. Cheap-O) put a new water heater in.

Our water is known for being heavy with minerals, and 8 years ago we installed a whole house water softener (everything EXCEPT hose outlets). So mineral deposits are probably not an issue, AND our water heater is NOT leaking yet. I'm prone to letting it go till it develops a problem, but how long can I hope for with the water heater with soft water?
