4 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoFor Christians who criticize Mormons: How come they can dish but can't take it?
How come they will claim that the they love us and aren't anti-Mormon but stand and shout down that we're duped by Satan and hell-bound following an evil satanic false prophet, but if we say one word against their creeds, like they're "unbiblical" they shout that we are persecuting them? Do any other Mormons here get sick of this? If you engage in this behavior, can't you see that your double standard is showing?

1 AnswerReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoCompulsion to break up?
Ok so I have posted this on two other mental help boards but still there's no one I can talk to about this and I really am upset. I'm a college student, 20, and about 6 months ago I met this wonderful girl during an archaeological field school sponsored by my college over seas. We hung out a lot, and a month ago we started dating and she is everything I have ever wanted, we've got the same interests, I find her really pretty, and we have a lot to talk about. Never a dull moment. However, this past week or so I've started to have these feelings that I've had before. Not voices, I know I'm NOT SCHIZOPHRENIC, so that's not the problem. But I've had these feelings before. Essentially, I just feel compelled to give up on her. I just feel like it's hopeless, and I just should stop seeing her. However, I know it's not. I've had these feelings before. Last year, I joined a church, even though my parents didn't like the church, but it wasn't long before I began feeling like I should stop going to church, and just give up on life. Not suicide, but just give up. Not care about the friends I'd made there, or if God was real, or focus on my life. I just retreated into my shell because I lived alone then. I'm having the exact same compulsions about this girl, and I'm afraid to talk to her about them. I can't talk to my parents, of course, and I don't really have any friends who wouldn't think I'm insane. Of course, I was on anti-depressants (Zoloft) for the past two years, and quit this summer. So I don't know what to do. Please, if you have recommendations I'd really appreciate it. This is the kind of girl I can see myself being with for the rest of my life, and I don't want to ruin our relationship and miss this chance.

3 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoA Question to Muslims Concerning Sacrifice?
So, I had a friend who's "born again" try and tell me that Muslims practice sacrifice regularly at mosques as part of Islamic law. I'm pretty skeptical of his claims, especially since he happens to think that touching a Koran would result in him catching "demons." FYI, I'm kinda agnostic/skeptical, but knowing that Protestants (especially born-agains and Baptists) lie about other faiths all the time, I was wondering if there are Islamic practices of sacrifice? I know, odd criticism coming from a guy whose religion has god demand a human sacrifice, but still, I wondered if there are such Islamic practices? Is it kind of a fringe thing? I mean, my neighbors are Muslim, and I've never heard them mention sacrificing anything.

3 AnswersGarden & Landscape1 decade agoTo those with a knowledge of Ancient Greek?
Okay, I have a hw question. One of the sentences has the word " agage " with smooth breathing and the accent on the first syllable. I've been beating my brains out trying to decipher it. I'm guessing the -ge is "at least" but the " aga-" has me confused. I thought it might be from agw, but no cigar. Your help would be much appreciated.
2 AnswersLanguages1 decade agoWhat makes a cult leader?
I've been reading about this guy. He often claimed that his followers had to abandon all their belongings and family to get to his heaven. He went around, publicly insulting members of other religious groups, and even threw temper tantrums in public. He abused his own followers by telling them they were possessed by Satan unless they utterly submitted to him. At one point, he even told his followers to round up everyone who disagreed with him and to kill them right before him. He often threatened people, saying they'd burn in hell unless they called him a god. He even changed what was written in the holy book of his day, and claimed that he was the only person in contact with god. What do you think of such a character?
