  • Basketball foul question??

My teammate just shot a bad 3-pointer. I am facing the basket, but the ball bounces hard over my head and towards the sideline. The player defending me moves quickly into my path as I turn to chase after the rebound. The defender has established themselves with both feet set to take a charge. I am focusing on the ball, so I do not realize they are in my path because I figured they would be chasing the ball too. I slam into the defender because I do not have time to make an adjustment and my focus is on the ball. In this case, I felt that this was a blocking foul by the defender because there was a loose ball and they were not trying to get the rebound and they were facing me. Normally, you go after the rebound and block out with your back. They turned and faced me to set up for a charge like I had the ball in my hand and was dribbling towards the basket. The defender said they did this because they knew they could not beat me to the ball, so they wanted to block me and let the ball bounce out of bounds so their team would get it. No foul was called, but the ball went out of bounds and the other team got it. My question is was there a foul committed? If yes, who committed the foul in this case? I have never had a defender do something like this before, they normally chase after the ball and block out with their backs. I feel like the foul was on the defender for incorrectly blocking my path. No foul was called because nobody could agree on who was at fault for the collision.

  • Denobulan from Star Trek, why do they bother to get married if having sex outside of marriage is permitted?

The Denobulan species will marry three times. Each having three wives and each wife having three husbands. But, they will also have sexual relationships outside of marriage, so why bother to get married in the first place?

  • In MLB, if there are runners on 2nd base and 3rd base and the game is tied, and the batter hits a ground rule double, how is it scored?

So, the score is tied 1-1 with the home team up in the bottom of the 9th and the hitter is up with two runners in scoring positions. The hitter rips one down the line and it bounces into the stands for a ground rule double. Does the hitter get credited with a double? Does both runners score, so the hitter gets two Runs Batted In? If you hit a home run with the bases loaded and you need one run to win, you get all four, but does that same idea apply to ground rule doubles?

  • Why are there not more uncirculated (still new) Canada pennies from the 1930's, 1940's, and 1950's?

I understand that fewer Canada pennies were minted than USA Lincoln What Cents from the same time period, but there seems to be a shortage of uncirculated Canada Small Cents even for the Canadian penny collectors. By the 1850's coin collecting was a big business in the United States, so I figured it should have been a big business in Canada too by the early 1900's. There should be lots of uncirculated pennies from the 1930's, 1940's, and early 1950's, that coin dealers set aside for collectors, but there is not. Also, I have notice most complete collections of Canada Small Cents are circulated, which means Canada collectors were either not buying uncirculated coins and getting them out of circulation, or could not get them. Some years, such as 1949, uncirculated pennies are common, but many other are not. Just wondering why? Does anyone sell Canada coins or has some historical knowledge on this subject?

  • If I am a wind elemental sorcerer in Pathfinder 3.5, how does the fire spells work for me?

I am a Level 3 Wind Elemental Sorcerer and I get Burning Hands, a 1st level spell, as a bonus spell at this level. Burning hands says... A (15 ft.) Cone of Fire (Electricity) shoots from finger tips. Any creature in the area of the Fire (Electricity) takes 1d4 of Fire (Electricity) damage per caster level (Max 5d4).

Okay, this part is easy, I just change it to electricity damage.

Combustible material catch Fire if the the flames touch them. A Character can take a full round action to put out the flames.

Here I have an issue. I am shooting Electricity, which would cause Electrical Damage and might not start a fire. The rules actually say that 1st level Electricity spells rarely cause fires, so what does it actually do? Higher level spells heat up metal either causing them to melt or become so hot that they burn the target character or can catch stuff on fire. Some other electrical spells call for a -4 DC throw when the targeted creature is wearing metal or +3 to hit (Shocking Grasp). This spell hits automatically, so the +3 to hit cannot be substituted here. There is a Reflex save throw of (10 + Spell Level + Caster Level) to reduce the damage by 1/2, which could increase +4 for targets wearing metal, but this seems hardly fair since the fire can cause the target to lose a turn while it puts it out or could also cause additional fire damage every round if it is not extinguish. So, the question is how would this spell actually work with electricity instead of fire? Would the target have to drop all metal or take burning damage? Would the save throw also be increased the additional +4 if they are wearing metal? Should I just ignore the rule and catch stuff on fire even if it is Electricity and not Fire?

  • If I have a spell that works at range, does it also work in melee in Pathfinder 3.5?

Okay, I have several spells that say 25 feet plus 5 feet per level. Can these only be used like a ranged weapon or can I use them to attack a monster that I am in melee with? The spell says range touch attack. Do I need a touch attack spell that works only by touching the enemy? Also, when dose the monster get a attack of opportunity if any if the spell works in 1 standard action? If it works instantaneously and I am attacking a monster right in front of me, does it get to attack me first?
