  • Screens for old bungalow with original windows?

I have an 85 year old bungalow with the original windows. I'm not sure what type of windows they are called, but they are the ones with the rope and a weight to counterbalance the window weight.

I would like to install screens so that I can open some of them up during the spring/fall. I went to Home Depot and they were clueless as to what kind I would need, etc. Can anyone help?

    Thank you!!

  • How to fix a flooding backyard?

I have an ongoing problem that I would finally like to tackle. I live in Atlanta and my house is at a low point compared to all my neighbors, so my backyard floods when it rains. It also means that no grass is growing.

How can I fix this without breaking the bank? I've considered french drains, but there is nowhere to drain the water since my yard is the low spot. Although I would much rather have a "grass" yard, I've also considered a rain garden but I'm skeptical that this will actually solve the issue. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

  • How can I tell if my hardwoods are damaged?

I removed a section of a "raised" floor and found hardwood flooring underneath it. The rest of the house is hardwood as well. However, the newly discovered hardwood has a film of black on it and seems to be untreated. It looks very different than the finished hardwood, and I'm wondering if the wood is damaged and needs to be replaced. There isn't any rot or anything like that. What do I need to look for when determining if the floor is in good enough shape to be used?

    Thanks. Rich.

  • Match new hardwood to old hardwood without re-staining the entire floor.?

I have an old bungalow that has hardwood throughout the house. The kitchen had a raised step (which was an eyesore) so we are taking it down. There is a section under the raised step that is missing hardwood flooring, which may be the reason why the previous owners put the step there to begin with. I am planning on installing new hardwood where it is missing. However, since the entire house is hardwood I don't want to sand and refinish the floor throughout the house. Does anyone have suggestions on how to get the new hardwoods to match the old? How do I find out what type of wood the old floor is? And how do I get a matching stain? Thanks!!!!

  • How to open up the Magic Bullet base? ?

I spilled some fruit juice on the base of my magic bullet and now everything sticks, including the levers to "turn it on". I would like to open it up and clean it up to put it back to original working order. Does anyone know how to do that? I unscrewed the four screws at the bottom of the base but I still couldn't get it opened. Help!!!!
