Could air fuel a fire?
The fire triangle teaches us that a fire requires heat, fuel and oxygen to burn. So my question is this, is there a gas in the atmosphere that could serve as fuel? This is of course assuming you could control said gas and thus the fire itself.
1 AnswerChemistry5 years agoCould such a planet exist?
I'm writing a fantasy story and I envision a planet with rapidly fluctuating tilt. As it happens the tilt fluctuates at an exact annual rate so that the south pole is constantly bathed in sunlight and the north pole is stock in constant darkness. That's not what I need to know whether it's possible or not. What I want to know is, is there a way for such a planet to also have seasons? I'm thinking if the planet has a highly eccentric orbit maybe that would be able to create seasons as well. Any input is appreciated.
7 AnswersAstronomy & Space5 years agoWho's stronger? Spider-Man or Captain America?
Now I'm specifically interested in their MCU counterparts, no comics allowed. I'm also only interested in raw strength, not fighting abillity or differences in tools they use. With that in mind here's a couple reference points: In Civil War we see Cap stopping a helicopter barehanded, it's estimated this will have required him to have at least 3000 pounds of lifting force. In the same movie we see Spider-Man holding up a jet bridge, but I can't for the life of me find out how much one of those weighs. If I remember correctly Tony estimates Spidey to have "6000 pounds of stopping power" when he recruits him. BUT in the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode The Bridge we see Mike Peterson push a bulldozer with locked treads on a football field, and afterword he asks the trainer if he "beat Captain America's time" implying that Cap could do that even faster than he did. It's entirely possible the two are quite evenly matched, and since the different stunts require different muscles to perform, that of course makes it difficult to compare, but if anyone's up for a challenge I put it to you: Who is stronger?
3 AnswersMovies5 years agoCould an earth-like planet be bigger than earth but maintain an earth-like gravity?
I'm currently writing about a world where most of the life is not just earth-like, it's exactly like what we have on earth. If I change the gravity too much, that would no longer make sense, none the less I would still like to make the planet bigger, hence my question.
9 AnswersAstronomy & Space6 years agoWhat is the highest acceleration a human can withstand?
I'm currently writing about a wheel shaped space station 1005 km in circumference, rotating at 4509.4423 km per hour. I need to know how fast a train moving along the outside of the wheel can decelerate, how long it would take the train to reach 0 km per hour and 4509.4423 km, and in case the result is different when accelerating, the same numbers for train doing the opposite.
1 AnswerPhysics6 years agoIf a geosynchronous orbit only takes one mean sidereal day, what would happen if a station had an orbital period of one normal day?
I'm currently writing about a space station in orbit around the earth, I've calculated that in a circular orbit with a height of 35862.96 km it will have an orbital period of almost exactly 24 hours. Yet I learn that in a geosynchronous orbit, the orbital period is 23 hours 56 minutes and 4,9 seconds. What I want to know is, if my space station maintain the 24 hour orbital period, would the earth seem to stand still beneath it, or would the planet turn ever so slowly relative to the space station?

1 AnswerVideo & Online Games7 years agoHow long has the drumming in the Master's head been part of Doctor Who canon?
I know the Master has been part of Doctor Who for decades but I'm wondering if he always had the drumming in his head, or if that was just invented for his role with the tenth Doctor?
2 AnswersOther - Television7 years agoIs it breaking with established lore, that elves and beast-races can be Dovahkiin in TESV: Skyrim?
So far as I can tell, being born as Dovahkiin or Dragonborn was something that only happened to the human races, which then ultimately leads to frustration and breaks in immersion when I try to play as beast-races. IS this justified or am I mistaken?
3 AnswersVideo & Online Games7 years agoWhat were the people who managed the slaves called?
In the 19th century, before slavery was made illegal in America, what were the different people who handled the slaves called? I realize people who bought and sold slaves were called slavers but I assume there were specific words for people who punished slaves, who kept them in line and so forth. I really mostly interested in some sort of system of ranks.
11 AnswersHistory7 years agoIf time slows down the faster to the speed of light you travel, shouldn't that defeat the point cryo-sleep?
As the question says, though I realize that on very long interstellar journeys it might still be necessary.
3 AnswersPhysics8 years agoHow do I get SkyRe Reproccer to recognize the Bosmer Armor Pack Mod?
I have never before had problems with the Reproccer, on the other hand this is the first time I've had to edit the "stats" file of the Reproccer. Very simply what I did was: I found each of the armor material types that the bosmer armors are equivalent to, copied and pasted the section, and then altered the "material" to "Bosmer", "Bosmer Elder", "Bosmer Reinforced", "Wild Hunt" and "Wild Hunt Light". It worked for a time, but now the values are stuck at vanilla values no matter what I do.
HELP PLEASE!

3 AnswersEarth Sciences & Geology8 years agoWhere did Thor crash after having been dropped by Loki?
In The Avengers, when Loki tricks Thor and locks him up in Hulk's cell, Thor is dropped into a field near a coastline. I realize it wouldn't be cannon to say he crashed in Denmark, but as I am Danish I have to say, the plants in the field, the shape of the coastline, it all looks VERY familiar. So even though he wouldn't have been in Denmark in the movie, I feel very certain that the CGI of the drop, and the field itself was filmed in Denmark. I don't know this for certain, so can someone confirm or debunk this theory of mine?
2 AnswersComics & Animation9 years agoIs Idun part of the marvel comics?
In Norse mythology, the gods have eternal youth due to Idun's golden apples. In the marvel comics featuring Thor and Loki and all the other Asgardians, is Idun and her apples part of this universe as well or did they not care to bring that up?
2 AnswersComics & Animation9 years agoWhat is the piece of music, played during Loki's "eye extraction" in Germany, called?
In "The Avengers" there is a scene where Loki is in Germany looking for the eye of a certain man. This man, and subsequently Loki, is at a fancy party of some kind, where the orchestra is playing, what can only describe as, a classical piece of music. My question is simple; What is it called?
