The best routes to take are to research the process of starting a business as well as the industry you're interested in.

I recommend checking out the SBA, Entrepreneur, The Start Up Journal & Nolo. All 4 are great informational resources for the new/small business owner. I posted links for you in the source box.

Research, research, research – this cannot be stressed enough. Read as much as you can. Here are some book titles that are relevant:

    * Starting an Online Business For Dummies, 4th Edition by Greg Holden

    * How to Start and Maintain A Successful Online Business by Kelly Thornton

    * The Complete E-Commerce Book: Design, Build, and Maintain a Successful Web-Based Business by Janice Reynolds

There are plenty of free informational resources out there. Check the source box for links to articles.

Hope that helps! I wish you much success & happiness in all your ventures!

Online or not, what you are starting is still a business, and perhaps you should treat it like one, no matter how much you may love it. It's not just a hobby that you think you can make money from. You are investing a lot of your time, effort, and perhaps even a lot of money on this "hobby" of yours, and if you don't take it seriously they will all go to waste. So, have a plan. Determine your goals and your target market, and find your growth estimates and your methods of achieving them.

the first step is to get the web address and set up the page. do you need help with that part? once you do that, then you can worry about how to get traffic. there are lots of methods, but it depends a lot on what the product is.
