I intend to start a business importing & distributing commodities from india. Any ideas on which product ?

There're many sites. For example, go to http://www.indiamart.com/ . You'll get an idea of what are the products available.

Select a few commodities that you can handle. That'll be based on your financial, marketing, and other strengths. When you've narrowed your focus, go for evaluating the best one or two ideas.

Then ask the question again to know how to get source them. You may get some help.

OK, if you think this is a good and profitable business, I would hope that you would already have some products in mind.

It depends on so many things... your contacts in India, and where you intend to export them to -- US, elsewhere?

What do you know of, from India, that is in demand in whatever market you intend to send it to.

Once you figure that out, if you believe you can get the product and know how to get it from point A to point B, then know of a way to sell it at the other end, you have the makings of a business idea.

Look for something unique, the secret in importing is products. Clothing? Nah, too many people, jewelry, accessories, maybe, as for food products, check with you FDA for regulations and quarantine requirements. India is also a budding electronics and software sector, so I would recommend looking in that area.
