Why are so many books and movies banned in the US?

I know the Disney "Song of the South" is banned (Bluebird on my Sholder, etc.)

So what other classics that we all know, are banned from the US. Anyone have the list/link?

They are banned because in this country, the way you can publicly announce that you don't like something is to prohibit it. It makes the govt look like they are morally good. What Ever.

    hahahah.

My county in Texas JUST became wet, that is, we can buy beer and liquor inside the county now. Until January we were trucking it to the county line where beer joints and liquor stores lined the road one after another....and buying stupid "memberships" at restaurants so we could drink in their "private clubs."

It seems that making the sale of alcohol illegal in my county did NOT keep us from throwing them back after all. And there were even loopholes. But as long as that law was on the books, someone probably thought we were a god-fearin county. Now it seems we are headed for hell in a handbasket. Again. What Ever.

I know this has nothing to do with books. But the idea of making something like literature illegal in a FREE country is preposterous to me. And the US has a glowing rep for doing just that. If nothing else, citizens in a free thinking society need to have access to the demented materials out there so they know their enemies better and can take more intelligent steps to protect themselves from it.

I don't think Song Of The South is banned as such, it's just that it seems pretty racist by today's standards and Disney don't feel the controversy is worth it for the release.

Check out the below link though as there's a campaign to get it released.

As for other movies, the fact that movies can be released in the US unrated means that no movie is strictly "banned" in the same way as in, say, the UK or China (i.e. it's illegal to distribute it), but many movie remain unreleased because the rights holders don't feel the money will justify the problems they will face in releasing a controversial movie.

Not sure "Song of the South" is banned now (I heard that it was in the 60s)…I saw that film while in elementary school in the early '80s.

An unsourced article in Wikipedia claims that only two movies are banned in the U.S., mostly due to libel claims and copyright issues.

By and large, we don't have the same scale of censorship that the U.K. had in the 80s with their Video Nasties list. One of my English friends saw his neighbor's home get ransacked due to a rumor that he owned a copy of The Exorcist, which was banned at the time.

However, check out the list of U.S.- banned books on Wiki…

basically gave a speech on that. Too drained to type that lots, yet in essence, no. if human beings are even given the skill to prohibit issues, immature human beings will abuse it and flow on a rampage banning something of their paths. case in point, "Black elegance" grew to become into banned via fact the call grew to become into "racist". Yeah. I in no way study the finished e book, yet i comprehend that Black elegance is a horse... yeah. like the 4-legged style.
