What are the reasons why Filipinas married to a Japanese resorted to divorce?

I am doing a study about the cases of Filipinas who got separated from their Japanese husbands. I would like to solicit reactions, and if possible suggestions to answer the problem.

My thesis presupposes that the marriage between a Filipina and a Japanese is a personal decision. Primarily, the decision to stay or break a marriage rests on either of the couple. There are, however, structures that support the marriage. Without these structure of support, it will be hard for them to keep a marriage. One supporting structure is the moral support extended to them by their family of origin; the second is their peers, friends or communities; and third, their economic capability to support a family. Tensions in any of these structures could lead to a breakdown of communications and eventually put a stress to the relationship. The structure of consciousness of each of the couple should be considered. Are they proned to mistrust that eventually would lead to giving up on the marriage?

I would say that the structures you were talking about are the manifest reasons for the break up of marriages, or the immediate reasons for divorce. But what is the underlying forces that drive these Filipino women to divorce their Japanese husbands? I would say that the latent reason - the not so immediate answer - is differences in culture. You made mention of tensions in those supporting structures like family, peers and economics. But why were those tensions created? Filipinas dream to build her own family, independent from Japanese in-laws. This is not possible in Japanese culture. This will only create conflict and strains her marriage. Japanese consider Filipinas as inferior (since they were stereotyped as prostitutes) and therefore most of "his" friends disapprove of her... tensions again. For Filipinos, what other people says do not matter. However, for Japanese men, what they say matters. And how about the finances? Filipinas were brought up in a culture where men would entrust to her the management of the household, and therefore the woman gets all the money from her husband. This is unthinkable for Japanese. For Japanese, its the man who manages the household. Women are subservient to her family.

In other words, differences in culture is the underlying factor, the latent reason, for the break up of marriages between Japanese and Filipinas.

interesting questions. I have a current boy friend, a Japanese. He wanted to marry me. But I am having a second thought because my friends were telling me that Japanese men are generally polygamous. I do not want my marriage in the future to end up in divorce.

i don't know about those races, but i am married to a wonderful man from mexico. But eventhough we get along quite well, i will tell you that culture differences are very hard and stressful in a marriage. Maybe that is why they get divorced.

I am married to a Japanese man. I am Filipino American. Everyone warned me, Japanese men are terrible. My husband was great. He was open to my culture fil-am. He was the greates man I met. But once I was married and moved to Japan he changed.

His room was a mess, he once told me it was because he was busy. But no! He just doesn't want to clean. He doesn't want me to clean it either. His dinning table is full of important documents that he doesn't want me touching.

    We sleep on separate beds...

(he told me its Japanese custom to sleep on separate beds)

    No sex

my family isn't welcome in our home (his home)

He tells me to ignore everything. AND CHANGE!!! JAPANESE WAY.

He doesn't care about my culture anymore....... he's different... he's a different man....

I'm so depressed..... he doesn't care about my happiness....

sometimes differences in cultures create problems between the couple...you should compare the Japanse culture and the Filipino culture to know what the differences are.
