OK here's what the Planner do where I work.
They ensure that the Assembly People, Parts People and Engineering are all on the same page. That we all know that on THIS DAY the plane need to be THIS FAR into the process so that we can make delivery on time. They also Generate the Work Orders. Each Work Order Details any Options that the Customer has Ordered and what Parts need to be installed to fulfill the Requirements.
I always think of them as the link between Sales and Manufacturing

I Agree with Dazed. Aircraft planners are sometime a booklet kind of thing or a computer program mounted in aircraft cockpit so pilot can see...the weight of the aircraft before flying. It helps crew to estimate the weight of Passanger laguage and all other stuffs including all the parts of that baby and check to see if something is not working well... Because there is not PlaneX in air as we have CarX on ground...

An aircraft planner as in the manufacturing of an aircraft looks after the assembly line process to see it being built on time. Customers may want custom features and planners also work with customers to custom build airplanes like carpet color and texture, more leg room in seats or less leg room in seats ... more business class seats and less economy seats or more economy seats and less business class seats
