Broaching technology?

Can any one suggest method of Blind hole Broaching - Hexagonal key way internal. Depth 20 mm and Across flat 10 mm. Please suggest me relevant broaching machine to be used for Broaching Blind hole. Thanks

    I like tinkerlayor's answer above - Rotary broaching looks like a very interesting technology!

    I was going to say cold-heading, too - probably how most hex sockets are made. But 1:2 width/depth ratio may be difficult for this as well.

    If you have small volume (i.e. hundreds), lost-wax casting can make this blind hole. Higher piece price but cheaper tooling compared to cold head.

    The extreme.... If you just need one piece - EDM can get any shape blind hole.

  • Rotary broaching can probably do this, though the depth to width ratio might be a little higher than optimum. Rotary broaching can be done on a screw machine or lathe with proper tooling.

    For high production you might consider a forging or cold heading type operation rather than a chip macking operation.

    Yes find a shop that does metric work. It will be done on a Shaper.
