Chemistry Help?
I'd appreciate it if someone could work this problem out for me. Thanks
Use the bond energies provided to estimate DeltaH°rxn for the reaction below.
PCl3(g) + Cl2(g) --> PCl5(l) DeltaH°rxn= ?
Bond / Bond Energy (kJ/mol)
Cl-Cl = 243
P-Cl = 331
A) -419 kJ
B) -905 kJ
C) -67 kJ
D) -243 kJ
E) -662 kJ

you have to subtract the bond energies of the reactants from the bond energies of the products so u have (3 P-Cl bonds + 1 cl-cl bond)-(5 P-Cl). You need to know Lewis dot structures to do this.
