Why did pirates always buried their treasure insted of spending it?

Or is this just a old tale? I've never read or herd of a pirate who had treasure and actully spend it. Why did they always "Buried the Tureasuer"?

They burried there treasure as a way of keeping it safe. Think if u plunder two or three ships. your own cargo hold would be fat and possible other pirates would rip you off so it would be ideal to bury it to hide it and spend it when u choose.

Often, they did spend it immediately. Hey, they liked to shop just as much as we do.

But often, they would take something that would be immediately recognizable. Then, they would hide what they had taken until they could trade it for more spendable cash, or the heat hide died down and no one was actively looking for those particular items.

And although banks did exist, most pirates would rather use the equivalent of the mayonnaise jar in the backyard than deposit their cash in a bank (which were often little better than legalized piracy anyway.)

here is my funny explination. In the first pirates of the caribbean they did spend it, they became cursed skeletons. In the second one a treasure chest was buried to keep it safe and hidden. In the third the beating heart in the chest was stabbed

Pirates didn't bury their treasure, they spent it. They would raid a ship or town, steal and loot everything in sight, then go to one of the few safe havens for pirates to spend their money on women, booze, and the like. They didn't bury their treasure!
