Kenmore 80 Series washer eating baby socks?

I fear that my washer has developed a very healthy appetite for my 6 month old son's socks. Is there an easy way to get the agitator out to rescue them? I remember my Dad taking the washer and dryer apart periodically to rescue lost items but the washer my Mom had was drastically different than the one I have.

TIA!

The cheaper washers without a filter are known for this. Mine does the same. It also eats woman's panties, nylons and other light weight items, they end up in my sump pit and, plugging my sump pump. I had to put a screen over the line to stop this. I eventually made a basket to catch these items.

Nope, agitator has to be removed from spline. Use a wash bag for the socks. Had to dig my ear buds from my ipod out from the agitator the other week. good luck

Remove the softener dispenser by pulling up on it, then remove the water barrier then remove bolt in center with 7/16 socket and extension. remove agitator pulling up from the bottom.
