VHF stands for Very High Frequency and UHF is Ultra High Frequency. They were two different ways that TV used to broadcast programs over the air. The VHF consisted of channels 2-13 and UHF was 14 and up. With the advent of cable, people don't really have to worry about UHF or VHF anymore unless they still get their signal over the airways with an antenna. But even that will disappear in February of next year when UHF and VHF frequencies will be dropped in favor of an all-digital signal.
