Please help with TV show recommendations?

I am not a TV person and I'm VERY picky, but I'm bored lately and looking for shows I might like. At present, I only watch Mythbusters, Ghost Hunters, X-Files re-runs, and House M.D.. As you can see, there is a common thread. They all deal with solving mysteries and all have an element of humor. Based upon these shows, can you suggest other programs I might enjoy?

    1. Heroes - the story of a bunch of ordinary people who develop super powers, and how they cope with them. It's a serialized drama, so you have to watch every episode, but it's well worth it. Some of the storylines are funny, others are sad, while others are more action-oriented. There are several mysteries, and it's a good blend of characterization, plot, drama and comedy.

    2. Lost - I'm sure you've heard of the basic plot - a plane crashes on a Pacific island, and the survivors discover they are not alone. Again, it's a serialized drama that requires you to watch every episode, but it pays off. There are plenty of mysteries, and a good combination of humor and drama.

    3. Ugly Betty - Mostly comedy, over the top story of a fish out of water. It's very soap operatic and has plenty of mysteries and weird plot twists. Still, it's plenty of fun and visually striking.

    4. Desperate Housewives - very dark, biting comedy/drama about the suburbs. Plenty of mysteries and murders. It's a guilty pleasure, and I know plenty of men who love it.

    5. Dexter - dark and yet humorous. Dexter is a blood splatter analyst for the Miami Police Department. He's also a psychopathic (literally) serial killer who kills criminals who escape justice. The show is funny in that Dexter has a humorous way of looking at the world, other people and life in general. There's also a mystery, in that someone has figured out what Dexter is and is trying to 'play' with him. Great fun, in a warped sort of way.

in addition to the excellent answer above mine, I would also suggest BONES. They solve a crime and always have some funny parts when the book-smart main character doesn't grasp some social ettiquette.

CHUCK or REAPER are good if you're in the mood for something a bit more light-hearted or if your in the mood for a serious mystery that's supernatural, then the show SUPERNATURAL is great too. It's one of my favorites.

    Doctor Who!!!

I was not a fan of shows like this, but started watching it because someone said my husband looked like "The Doctor" and after one episode, I was hooked!

If you're in the US, you can watch it on Friday nights on SCI-FI channel and you can also pick it up on PBS and BBC America (if you have it)

The "new" series started a couple years ago. I think you would really like it if you like x-files. I can also tell you where to watch older episodes to catch up if you want.

try pushing daisies. its on ITV at the min. its about a guy who can bring the dead back to life with one touch but if he touches them again they'll be dead for good (cue twisted love story), so he works as a private investigator by asking the recently deceased who killed them. its actually very funny and has a strange 50s colouful look and a great narrator!

CSI (Las Vegas). CSI New York and Miami aren't as good. If you have comcast, you can watch it ON Demand.
