In the recent F1 night race in Singapore, was it a successful race? Why?

I heard about the recent F1 night race took place in Singapore. The Fararri Team performed very badly as one of their racing car pulled along a refuelling hose in the pit. Was the night race very sucecessful? Why?

It was a success because it made the news and created a lot of buzz and generated a lot of interest in the sport.

I think it was generally a success, with a few "cons".

Things like having to shift the pit lane entrance and exists, and the fact the track was bumpy show a lack of preparation. One could even go further and wonder if there had been any consultation with the Formula One Teams Association or similar organisations to get an indication of their requirements.

The fact Mark Webber's car was sidelined because of bumps on the track is really unacceptable. We know that at least Red Bull, and possibly other teams as well, had to rewrite part of their car's software to accommodate the roughness of the track.

And to have an incident of the Heidfeld / Barrichello nature and a fine levied against a team because of poor track layout, again, just raises questions about what, if any, consultation took place between regarding the track layout.

While the race was a failure for Ferrari, what it really highlights AGAIN is the need for some sort of warning light or engine disengagement mechanism to be installed in cars when the fuel hose is attached. The current situation of no warning light and no engine disengagement mechanism just means it is inevitable that someone will be killed because of a refueling hose disengagement issue. I just cannot understand why this isn't taken seriously.

While there is a lot of criticism about the Safety Car, to me it is a success. I know that sounds strange, but would Alonso have won without the current rules? No. Would Vettel have won without the bad weather? No. While the Safety Car rules aren't adequate from a pure racing perspective, they do highlight inadequacies in other areas of the F1 format, such as difficulty in overtaking. The fact both Alonso, Vettel, and Piquet at Hockenheim were able to compete effectively with leading cars when at the front of the race proves their cars do have the pace to compete if allowed to do so. What the qualifying system needs is a change to get one or two of these cars near the front so they can succeed.

First Night Race : Successful as it went off without any major hitches

Promote Singapore to the world: Successful as the world saw the beauty of night time Singapore

Improve tourism numbers: Successful. Lots of tourists came into Singapore to watch the race.

Bring big bucks to businesses in the area: Depends on who you are. Hotels, yes. Shopping in shopping centers in the track, bad.

Promote F1 to Singaporeans: Failure. Most people in heartlands are either busy watching English Premier League. Many others who watched F1 were confused by what was happening with the Safety Car, pit stops rules etc. In fact a poll did a month before the race showed that a majority of Singaporeans had no idea the race was on this year. But it's a start.

Night racing is a new thing for F1 and a big risk.

For the race to go off with just Ferrari stuffing up their chances and an unlikely winner in Fernando Alonso meant the fans there went away satisfied and entertained, the worldwide tv audiences, the advertisers, sponsors, the teams themselves and the local economy were extremely happy I imagine!

Singapore has now put itself firmly on the F1 map with the niche of being 'The Night Race'. I think they have done a good job.

on the whole it was a great success.

F1 is not hugely popular in Singapore, this will defiantly make F1 appeal to a greater audience.

There is always a curiosity value with a new track, especially given the fact it was shown under a torch or two, this will of interested long time F1 fans who are looking for something different.

A night race can work in F1 as long as it is kept to 1 race a year to prevent over kill.

from the on track spectator point of view, it was a success, the cars were so close to the fans that you could almost touch the cars as they went by...

for the european televiewers, it was a success, they didnt have to be up till past midnight to watch the race which is the case with all other asian races...and aside from watching it primetime we were all privileged to witness the first ever night F1 grand prix...

however, from a racing point of view, temporary street tracks have no more place in modern f1 racing... the cars are simply too fast... too powerful for these little streets...including Monaco...

I only can say is quite successfully because there is not major chaos cases happen during the event. But a bit disappointed that there was 2 times the refuelling host was pulled away while was not ready to go yet. They are to rush.

In news prospective, it is a great success.

In my view, the lighting is cool and the roadworks done at quite a short time. Better still people are quite bearable in terms of 2 weeks road blocked for those working at the commercial area. Yeah, I'm proud of my country and we will do better next year :-)

Quite sad that Ferrari lost though, didn't expect that.
