A man wanted to get into his work building, but he had forgotten his code. However, he did remember five clues. These are what those clues were:

The fifth number plus the third number equals fourteen.

The fourth number is one more than the second number.

The first number is one less than twice the second number.

The second number plus the third number equals ten.

The sum of all five numbers is 30.

What were the five numbers and in what order?

    Do you want to know how?

    The first number (A) is determined by the second number (B)

    A=2B-1

    Since the second (B) plus the third number (C) is 10

    C=10-B

    The fourth number (D) is determined by the second number (B),

    D=B+1

    Since the fifth plus the third equals 14,

    E=14-C and since C=10-B,

    E=14-(10-B)

    A+B+C+D+E=30, right?

    So

    (2B - 1) + B + (10 - B) + (B + 1) + (14 - (10 - B)) = 30

    Solve for B and then you can determine the other numbers.

    Combine the B's and the numbers:

    2B + B - B + B + B = 4B

    -1 + 10 + 1 + 14 - 10 = 14

    4B + 14 = 30

    Subtract 14 from both sides of the equation (Just to keep things equal):

    4B = 16

    Divide both sides by 4 (Again, keeping things equal):

    B = 4
