We don't know if it's true or not, that's the problem with myths.

Until we have concrete evidence that it exist, it is considered a myth but, several attempts have been made to find the city - all in failure. Despite that, the search continues and if it does exist it may be found.

Remember the cities of Troy and Pompeii were considered myths until they were found - now they they are fact. They found Troy in Turkey and Pompeii was found near Naples (Italy).

Only by discovering Atlantis will it become fact and until it does the speculation of it's location will continue to perplex people around the world.

I reiterate as long as it's not found Atlantis is considered a myth but once it is found it becomes fact.

No one really knows for sure. It is possible that a city like Atlantis existed at one time, it's also possible that Plato was not referring to a real place but just what would have been an ideal society. Also it's possible that Plato's Atlantis was not real but another city like it was, without him having known it when he wrote about it. It's something that will probably always remain a mystery like the Bermuda Triangle, The Bimini Road, Bigfoot, and El Chupacabra. There is just no way of knowing the answer to this question.

I am sure there have been civilizations that have been destroyed by a large tidal wave, and swept into the ocean... or a fault line ruptured and sent a civilization to its demise on the bottom of the ocean floor... but who is to know if the name of it was actually Atlantis.

Atlantis itself may have been created by Plato. He was the first to mention it... and researchers are discovering that many ancient thinkers... Plato, Homer, etc... were actually using myths to show their point of view.

So Plato could have invented Atlantis to prove a political theory.

But I am sure there have been cities lost to the ocean over time. They just might not have been named Atlantis

ok, the belief of the real suitable utopia is impossible given human beings prefer to prevail. If human beings weren't as strongly pushed to constantly be the suitable communism would bring about a Utopian society. the only real information of it being genuine is a few historic human beings writing thoughts approximately it that for all all of us comprehend it would desire to be a metaphor or in hassle-free terms a placing for a narrative. most of the helping information this is greater solid to describe and yet nevertheless proves no longer something includes the maps some societies had that no civilization would have made till the twenty first century yet that they had interior the fifteenth century. those maps comprise a detailed to satellite tv for pc suitable map of Antarctica below the ice and a map of the recent international in wonderful high quality. i for my section experience there became maximum probable a somewhat superior civilization on a island on the Atlantic, no longer as superior as some say, that at some point had the island sink to an earthquake or a volcano in view that there have been many small eruptions interior the Atlantic that went neglected.
