Is it spelled Peeps or Peepz?

What is the most common spelling for the slang term meaning "people" or "buddies"? Peeps or Peepz?

    so far i've found the 'proper' spelling to be 'peepz'

    thought peeps were the marshmallow candies you get at easter and human beings are referred to as PEOPLE, jeez!
