Maintenance Man Walked Into My Apt I'm Undressed Completely?

I was sleeping and heard what I thought was a knock at the door and a voice. I got up (Fully Unclothed) and went towards the door only to see my maintenance man inside saying "I said maintenance" He said he put the packages inside so no one would steal them.

I went to the office the next day to tell the office manager, who could not have been more rude or unapologetic about what happened. She told me she told him to do it so I wouldn't be ripped off. No 24 hour notice, or call even though she said they tried to call me. What do I do?

Update:

I have a peep hole. I don't automatically open my door. If it was going to be opened I would have said just a minute and slipped on some clothes.

Update 2:

I hope someone answers this question who has a clue. Yes there is a recourse, because a 24 hour notice wasn't given. They are allowed to enter only if it is an (emergency), or 24 hour notice given. Package delivery is NOT an emergency. He could have taken them to the office and left a note. I'm not chalking it up to one of those moments. If you really don't understand renters rights, please don't pull a big one out the sky.

Update 3:

I also have caller ID and did not get a call. I have gotten calls before with a voicemail left telling me I have packages in the office. Just because she said it doesn't make it true.

Update 4:

Rainedaze... I can walk around in MY apartment however I choose. Just because you're a property manager doesn't mean you know the law. I could care less about going to pick my packages up. I'm contacting legal aide and will post a legimate legal answer as to what I'm told. I strongly suggest you read it. For you to sugggest I should be fully dressed in case a maintenance man wants to walk in, is beyound my comprehension.

Update 5:

Kenperk...I learned I have legal rights to dress or not as I very well please, and doing what I want in a unit I pay rent on time for is my perogative as long as it's legal.

The person you needed to call is the POLICE.

    1. Maintenance entered your property for a NON-EMERGENT reason WITHOUT a 24-hour notice...therefore, they had NO LEGAL RIGHT to enter your property.

    2. I would call the owner of the complex and tell them that you will have them arrested for trespassing if they do it again...and YES YOU CAN.

I cannot believe that some posters are so ignorant that they don't even realize how illegal what he did was.

PS: Raineyday is just lucky she has never been sued...b/c if that is what your "complex" is practicing, I am here to advise you it's 100% illegal...you can lie to your tenants and most will believe you...but you may get a smart one who knows better, and be ready to shell out big bucks if you get one.

First of all a 24 hour notice would of been needed regardless of what the manager said. If the packages where there at your door step the proper thing would of been to call you and tell you about them. If you where not at home the manager should of left a note and had them in her office. Period end of report.

It was nice of them to think of the packages being ripped off however they put themselves into legal problems by doing what they had done.

It was an embarrassment for you to say the least. What you wear in your own apartment is your business and no others.

But let me say that i`m sorry for your embarrassment but you had put a smile on the embarrassed maintenance fellow. So let it go and keep a good smile for that maintenance guy and not for the manager.

It was a embarrasing situation but nothing here was done wrong. He knocked,no one answered,he opened and announced who he was. We don't have to give 24 hour notice where I work unless we are going to be shutting off water or working on something major. We put packages in apartments all the time.

You are over reacting. You should be grateful that the office cared about your packages. You know they do not have to accept them and could make you track all the way to the post office to pick them up.

    It's a lesson learned...put on some clothes.

Nothing , it was one of life's little embarrassing moments. You could have put a robe on when you went to the door. You went to the door knowing you were nude. He knocked and announced himself. She said they tried to call. did you check your messages ?

You did not say where you live but a 24 hour notice is not all ways needed.

He may have been offended by you coming to the door naked and wants an apology from you.

No offense, but I really don't think there's anything you CAN do. It's not like they did anything on purpose, they were trying to do something nice for you.

Also, I know you didn't invite them in, but what were you planning on doing when you got to the door naked? Common sense should have dictated that if someone was knocking at your door, 99% of the time you are going to open it because it's someone who you probably wouldn't keep out of your home. What in the world were your intentions going to the door naked?

i am sorry; but Shakespeare said it best, "Much ado about nothing".

YOU have a right to walk nude in your hone; sometimes, doing what you like is not in your best interest.

    cheers. relax. YOU learned.
