What language was MS Windows written in?

Update:

Thanks Danf2.

The article is straight. I found this on the bottom line.

How Mr Gates sees a relationship to a Window and C++ remains an inigma.

Perhaps the MAC OS was written in C++?

Q. Why was Microsoft Windows called "Windows"? I would also like to know what programming language Windows was written in. (Starehe Starehe, Kenya, Starehe@elci.apc.org)

A. Windows is called that because when you're running multiple programs on the screen, each of the rectangular areas containing a program is called a window. It was written primarily in C++, with some machine language mixed in. Most of the new code is written in C++.

It is written in mostly Assembly language, and C/C++. They might use some C# as well.

I remember reading it's written with C/C++ and C# probably with some optimizations here and there done in assembly.
