There will always be people who somehow manage to wangle a benefit that they aren't entitled to, but I don't believe that the figure is that high. It's good that the system is being looked into, but as always our government will take it too far and hit those in genuine need. My step-son is currently struggling to get the benefits he is entitled to despite having already had a kidney transplant and now being back on dialysis. On top of that he has other health problems and goes 3 times a week to a hospital 15 miles away. He worked up until a couple of months ago, when work became impossible and then was told that he could not claim anything for 13 weeks! When will the system ever get it right? He has struggled to get even basic benefits because he chose to stop work, and would have lost his house if we had not had the money to pay his mortgage and council tax etc, because they have still not sorted it out. But he has proof that he is a geniune case and is not trying to get anything that he is not entitled to after 24 years of paying tax and NI.

I think you will find these statistics will change in a few months. Many of these people will be reassessed and be put back on benefits. It's a great trick to make themselves look better. 'Oooh..look at us, we're a really good government, just see how we cut the number of disability benefit claimants'.

Some people will be scroungers of course but others will get their benefits cut for unfair reasons. I know of people who genuinely need these benefits who have failed tests. I know a few people who have suffered with mental health problems being turned down because they had done things like wash their hair. Having suffered with mental health problems myself, I know that however bad you're feeling most of us would make the effort to wash when meeting someone.

Always be sceptical of statistics. You can make many things read as you want them too. It would be interesting to know what the statistics are now.

  • So the stuffed shirts are deliberately boosting the unemployment figures now?

    Strange.

I wonder if it's because, when they let people back on benefits, it will make it look as though they're solving the unemployment problem?
