I only buy HP. I've never had any problems. My former boss of 8 years is the same way. I have many friends who will only buy HP. I've heard Toshiba is crap. I've heard Dell is pretty crappy, too. However, I've also have heard some people say they like Dell and Toshiba.
Make sure whatever you get has at least 4GB of Memory and 320GB hard drive. Programs are bigger and require more to run these days than they did years ago.

I just bought a HP mini 311. It is a netbook with laptop like capabilities. It has no DVD/CD drive, but you can hook up one externally. They are on Ebay, Buy, Amazon, JR, and other sites right now for around $400. I bought mine today for $410 with free shipping from Ebay. If you are into gaming it also is one of the first netbooks to have the new Nvidia ION graphics, which will let you play most modern games!
Source(s): I did my research, and it is the best bang for buck netbook right now. EDIT : LMAO @ Omega's answer - ?Lv 45 years ago
technique a million: you ought to purchase a USB pass cable and connect it to the two desktops. A wizard might desire to pop up asking in case you desire to pass archives. merely save on with the on-demonstrate screen instructions to end your record pass. you ought to purchase the USB cable at ultimate purchase or Circuit city. technique 2: connect the two computing gadget to a on the spot community and upload your archives to the community. pass on the different computing gadget and acquire your archives. After that, delete the archives off the on the spot community so no one can get admission to it.

it depends on what you want, and how much you are willing to pay. there are so many different computers out there that have vastly different features. you need to do research and ask again afterwards

You shouldn't buy one if you don't know what a computer is.
A "Lab Top" IS a Computer.
How about one of these?:
