What are Americans taught in school about British geography?

Just seen a few questions where people are quite clear that they think England and Britain are EXACTLY the same thing so I'd love to know what they teach you if anything at school about British geography.

It depends on the school that one attends.

If you attend P.S. # 35, you might not even know how many states are in the United States of America.......and you want to know about what's going on across the pond?...ha!

Last time I checked, England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales are all located in the United Kingdom,...the UK....Britain......Great Britian.......God save the Queen!

Dumb and ignorant are not the same. Unfortunately not a lot of geography is taught in the States. But I've lived all over the world, ane a lack of geographical knowledge is common. I've talked to several Brits who knew very little about lands across the pond.

England is by far the most important part of the island of Great Britain and the whole kingdom...it has the most population, industry, etc, and dominates the others...much like how the USSR was often called Russia.

Those people are dumbasses. We know that Great Britain, United Kingdom, whatever is the country, England is... not a country. It's whatever the hell you want to call it. Other than that, not much. It's not really important anyway...

They don't really teach us much. I just learned about the British Empires and how it's the largest empire in the world and that's pretty much it. We usually learn more about the history.

If I were given a map of the world, yes of course I can point it out, but I don't know how many states there are in the U.K. We also obviously know the capital of the U.K is London.

  • Nothing...nope. We can basically point to it...but as far as attention to the geography of individual countries we mostly keep to ourselves, Mexico, France, and Italy. At least in primary school.

    Sorry!
