What do with left over diapers?

I have an entire pack of size 6 diapers (44 of them) plus a few in the diaper bags that I no longer need. None of my friends around me have children who can or might be able to use them (my son is the youngest). I could put them up on Free cycle but it's not very big in this area and the local shelters and charity places won't take them because the bag has been opened (retarded policy).

Was wondering if maybe there was another use for them that I haven't thought of. Any suggestions of what to do with 50 some odd size 6 diapers?

Save them until you have a baby shower to attend and then use them as part of a diaper cake :)

Most abuse shelters are happy to take any type of diaper donation they can get, open or not so try there. Also, go ahead and post them on freecycle, someone might really need them. Also call some churches or the red cross, often times when a family has a fire or other disaster like that they can give them to them.

have you checked with a local battered womens shelter? Many times they leave home with nothing and Ive had great luck with them accepting open diapers. Also some churchs run shelters or programs. Have you tried craigslist in the baby/kids section?

"I could put them up on Free cycle but it's not very big in this area"

Post there anyway. One, that's how you build a community thing like that -- somebody needs to take initiative -- and two, they will fly out the door anyway. I live in a wee town with a FreeCycle that has maybe two posts a month, and the too-small diapers I've sent out had several potential takers.

My mother works for a pregnancy center that collects donations, even if they have been opened. In fact, they usually get them from local stores that get damaged boxes. Look for one of those places or give them to a local school. There are always parents who can use them, and a school or pregnancy center would always take them.

I had loads of nappies also and just stuck an advertisement on free cycle and they where gone within 24 hours. You could also ask at the nursery or school your child attends to see if any one would take them off your hands.

  • Some churches will take them. if you go to one and you are active involved they will take them. Good luck
