Why are the questions 1 week old or more ?
Lately, I have been seeing questions in certain categories that are like a week old so what is up with yahoo answers?

There's a bug at present where sometimes, the oldest questions are shown on the first page. Just click on the arrow beside Oldest on the 'Sort by' line just above the questions and you'll see the newest ones.

That is this weeks glitch and it is happening to almost all users. When that happens, look at the top of the questions where it says SORT BY >> Oldest <<<click it and it will change to NEWEST. Yahoo is aware of the problem and hopefully will fix it soon without causing a worse glitch.
