In plural possessive terms, place the apostrophe after the "s." This will indicate to the reader that more than one person or thing owns the thing possessed.
So if he has several friends, then it would be, "John's friends' parents"
I've always known this, but I just wanted to give you a source.

John's friend's parents
Source(s): It seems that way because John is possessive of his friends and his friends are possessive of their parents - 1 decade ago
John's friend's parents' House = The house of one friend parents
John's friends' parents House = The house of more than one friend's parents

I was an English major so I'll try to help! :)
It depends on if you're talking about one friend or more than one.
If it's one friend, then it's "John's friend's parents."
If it's more than one friend, then it's "John's friends' parents."
