Health care policy question.?

Why is it right that some people can't afford health insurance. I will use an example from personal experience. My mom graduated from the University of Michigan with a masters degree in Child Psychology. Her current employer lost funding and no longer provides insurance. (They are a behavior health care provider) She then had to try to get her own insurance. However, she recently had lymph nodes removed because they had pre-cancerous growth. Now no insurance company will pick her up because of her "preexisting condition." She is currently unable to get coverage with anything lower than a 10,000 dollar deductible. This costs over 800 per month for what amounts to crappy coverage for a 48 year old female who doesn't smoke or drink and is in good physical shape. How is this right? I use this example to fight the claims that people without insurance are lazy morons. As you can see form her education she is nether. I'm not saying that the government should takeover health insurance but I think there should be some kind of alternative option. There are many many people who are deserving citizens who simply can't afford to go to the hospital. What does everyone else think?

A provision of the Health Care Act which states insurance cannot be denied an adult with pre-existing condition may be underway. Look for the timelines for this provision.

Why is it right that some people can't afford fancy cell phones? Why is it right that some people can't afford to own their own house? Why is it right that some people don't want to work, but demand that people who DO work, should pay them a living wage via welfare benefits?

Mom needs to do more research. She either needs to find another job, or apply for a HIPAA policy where pre-existing conditions are covered. There already ARE alternative plans - HIPAA policies, state high risk health funds, the new federal health exchange, etc. And, btw, someone with "precancerous growths" is NOT in good physical chape.

Look, there are more people in the USA right now having a hard time buying FOOD. There's no ENTITLEMENT program, not for food, not for health insurance. And you're forgetting, that the money to PAY for all of this, has to come from somewhere! Why don't you hear about the 1 in 7 Americans on Food Stamps, having a hard time EATING? Why is it the 1.5 in ten, that can't get "cheap" health insurance? We've got more of a food issue than a health insurance issue, so why do you think the politicians are focusing on HEALTH?

I'll tell you why - because the food industry makes up about 2% of our GDP, and the healthcare industry makes up about 18%. It's nine times bigger. It's not about what's better for the people - it's about politicians wanting to control even MORE parts of our lives.

AND. When you can't afford to go to the hospital, and you go - you get treated anyway. You just get a big honkin' bill afterwards. Here in the USA, we provide medical care whether or not you pay up front.
