Questions to Asian Chinese, predominantly to Chinese living in other countries like SIngapore, Malaysia.. etc.?

Why is it that the Chinese people living abroad give themselves Western names and not use their own dialect names? Every chinese seems to be a Claudia, Michelle, Susan or Jennifer. Even when speaking on the phone, I am not sure if the other party is a "Ang Moh" or a local.

Whatever happen to Tan Ah Kew, Chan Yoke Yin or Han Siew Khew? Most chinese claim it's because the other races are unable to pronounce their dialect names properly. That's lame. Try pronouncing Marimuthu, Paramasivan or Karunakaran.

Are the chinese living abroad ashamed of their own culture? Or do they think the culture is backward and should be left in the closet? Most chinese do not even have a traditional chinese wedding. They prefer a western style, church wedding, ragardless of their religious faith.

    1) I have my full chinese name on my I.C. and I have a western name when I work. The advice from my boss is so that people can easily remember my name. that's true, especially when we do business. I don't feel ashame of my chinese name, just it's for business. My family and friends still call my chinese name.

    2) In Malaysia and Singapore, we chinese preserve the culture and tradition very well. When you compared us to China or Taiwan then you will know what I mean. However, besides the tradition, part of our culture has merged with other cultures which make it more colorful. If you are open-minded then you will enjoy it more like I do.

    3) Malaysian and Singaporean Chinese wedding usually have few parts, they have traditional chinese wedding ceremony at the morning (usually at each other's family), then western wedding dinner at night. Do you have any problem on that?

    4) There are many races in Malaysia and Singapore, each race is proud of their culture. that's what i can say.

I guess an English name would be easier to read phonetically as compared to Chinese ones.

Chinese names can be quite different to read, even when using pinyin to spell.

I'm not so sure about the Indian names, but I guess there's only one way to pronounce it once you get past the tongue twisting.

Furthermore, depending on the country, some of the Chinese names are spelt in dialects like Hokkien or Cantonese and the actual Mandarin pronounciation can be very different

it incredibly is so unfaithful. i don't comprehend the place you get your tips from, yet i comprehend that distinctive Europeans want again right here, and prefer it right here whilst they do. of course, there are some Europeans whom dislike u . s . a . of america, and that's quite comprehensible. the standard of food right this is disgusting - hormones in each thing (which make you fat), George Bush is horrid - and each American complains approximately him, so why shouldn't they? additionally there's a distinction in existence. Europe is unquestionably greater advantageous settled then any Asian international locations are (different than perchance Japan). the television publicizes American happenings on eu televisions. So as a result, each eu is conscious what is going on - each now and then even quicker than us human beings. (I even have evidence, my grandmother lives in Hungary). and you realize? What makes u . s . a . of america greater advantageous than any eu u . s . a .? i do no longer believe that's something. if reality be told, the present disintegration of existence form and way of existence right here, to no longer point out the ineffective politicians we've make me want to bypass to Europe when I get my BA. thank you for examining!
