Actually, a knowledge of someone's age is one of those many factors that enhances effective communication. Sometimes, when knowledge about age, gender, hobbies, interests, mode, taste in food and fashion is lacking or insufficient, communication becomes speculative and risky. But on Yahoo/Answer board, it's easier to deduce the age group and gender of a questioner than actually guessing mode, hobbies, tastes, if the questioner hasn't written about them. So if a questioner wants a complete answer to his or her question, they should endeavor to include all the facts that will help in giving them complete answers. It's more like consulting a doctor. We have to learn how to ask question.

Yeah, but you can usually kind of tell how old someone is based on the language they use and the type of question. But it does help a lot if they give you a general idea of their age, instead of you having to guess and maybe give an inappropriate answer.

You can get a good flavor of the age of the asker by the caliber of the question and how it is presented.

If you get something like "Is there any Republican nominee able to carry the party to the White House in 2012 or will they crash and burn?", you can be fairly assured there is both age and maturity with the asker.

If you get something like "Sara Pallin is sooooooooooo kewl!!!!!!!!! I want her 2 B prez!!!!!!!! Will u hep me?", perhaps mental development hasn't reached the proper levels.

There is no reason to have to know the age or the gender of any member that you answer here.

Consider that the rules stipulate that your answer must be relevant to the question. That's all any member needs to know. PERIOD ! !

Yes, for all we know an eight-year-old could be on this site. Unfortunately there is nothing we can do since anyone can lie about their age and get away with it.
