Has anyone gotten pregnant despite have the IUD Mirena?

I have mirena and got it put in 8 weeks pp. I was talking to my sisters and they both said I need to use protection for the first year cps they knew women who got pregnant despite having the IUD. So I would like to know has this happened to any of you or anyone you know? I'm just a little worried cos I'm breastfeeding so I haven't gotten a real period just some light spotting here and there. And btw I read the literature I was given and read the info on the website and my doctor told me to wait two weeks before sex for it to start working. Thank you!

I have had it since 6 weeks postpartum with no troubles-I asked the same question earlier because I heard of someone getting pregnant on Mirena and later checked the website, they said only like 8 in 1000 women had gotten pregnant with it.

I never got a period for a year when I breastfed my first baby. Thats normal. With my second, I stopped nursing at 8 weeks, didn't get a period for several weeks after that then had a couple very heavy periods, but since then they have been getting lighter and lighter, which is nice.

I'd wait the 2 weeks the doctor recommended, but after that I wouldn't feel the need to use backup.

You can, despite the fact that the hazards are very small (Mirena is supposedly ninety nine.nine% strong, so lower than one a million lady in one thousand might get pregnant in step with 12 months while making use of it). Conceiving with an IUD in position isn't well both for you or for the fetus, on the grounds that it explanations a big broaden within the possibility of ectopic (tubal) pregnancies. While your signs would be brought about via plenty of stuff, a being pregnant experiment or a decision to the medical professional is most of the time in an effort to rule out whatever unsafe.

Well, any form of contraception doesn't have a 100% guarantee. While I haven't had it, nor gotten pregnant, it's still possible for anyone. Your best bet is to use condoms and birth control as extra precautions no matter what you're on or what's been placed inside of you. I have terrible paranoia about pregnancy myself, but it really isn't worth worrying about. How long have you been lactating?

It's always safe to have backup every time. Some people shy away from condoms because it seems to ruin the mood - all I can say is, what I do is put the condom on my boyfriend myself so it doesn't detract so much from the mood. Just be sure you put it on properly!

(I'm sure you're a grown woman so I feel silly for saying this, but you'd be surprised how many women are ignorant toward condoms.)

I wish you luck, and as always.. if you have symptoms of pregnancy or just want to get checked, visit your doctor.

I've had it for six months and had not had any pregnancy scares. My doctor told me last week that she has never personally seen a patient get pregnant while Mirena was inserted. Just make sure that you have your doctor check it during your regular check ups to ensure that it is still properly in place.

I have had it for 2 1/2 years and it's worked perfectly for me.
