Children's book about lacemakers...anyone remember this?

Sometime in the early to mid '80s, I owned a book I am almost certain was titled 'Zilliah' (or a variation of that spelling). It was the story of a ghost, Zilliah, telling the tale of herself and other girls who were kidnapped and forced to make lace by an old lady and a man, who sold it for profit. The girls escape the cottage they are kept in, and one of the captors ends up drowning in a river...? It seems there was possibly murder involved in the story somewhere as well-- not sure tho. Was very somber and dark for it to be a children's book, but I am certain it was. I have searched and searched, and am turning up nothing... its NOT 'The Lacemaker and the Princess' nor 'The Children Next Door'. It was definetly published sometime before 1988. Any help locating a title, an author, etc would be greatly appreciated!!! I loved this book!

i think you can read The Hunger Games

Wow. I was barely able to put this book down for a second after the first few pages got me completely hooked. Suzanne Collins narrative here has an immediacy to it that, when combined with the very dramatic life-or-death plot, is incredibly compelling.
