Why are spell checkers trying to replace the Z?

It keeps trying to correct initialize into initialise. It does this with other words that use z as well.

If you do a search engine check almost all of the world uses initialize not initialise. Is this some kind of American English language corruption?

It is correcting it because it is the right way of spelling it in any other English speaking country.

Go into your settings and change your language from "English (UK)" to "English (US)"

Go into the control panel and change your default language.

By the way, the only place in the world that uses "z" as a second to last letter instead of "s" is america and it's little cousin canada. The rest of the English speaking world uses English.
