Why does Budweiser promote itself as the "King of Beers"?

Why does Budweiser promote itself as the "King of Beers", given that:

(a) the nation that makes up its main market fought a well known war against a king, and

(b) it suggests that it didn't reach its preeminent market position on merit?

    1. Because they can

    2. "King" is a universally recognized term for royalty, the top, or any superlative, actually.

    3. I think you're over-thinking this...the war is over..we won..move on, already.

    4. In years past, Miller High Life marketed itself as "The Champagne of Bottled Beers", Schlitz was "The Beer That Made Milwaukee Famous....and so on, and so on.

Budweiser is remarkable in that it has kept a successful brand image - the Clydesdales and the King of Beers of decades.

Because Bud claimed the advertising trademark first. If Pabst or another brewer claimed the trademark first, Bud might have to bill themselves as the Queen of Beers.

    A. The war we fought against the King has long since been forgotten.

    B. Not necessarily so. It's all 100% advertising. Has really noting to do with the quality of any product. ALL brewers claim their beer is the best tasting, smoothest or what other adjective they want to use to describe their product. All manufacturers proclaim their product is the best, even if it is in fact the worst of the worst. Look at all the cheap crap that's being sold in TV infomercials.

Both of those "reasons" are beyond ridiculous.
