Does age change your taste of music ?

I find myself, now at 50 plus, liking songs that I never will sit donw and listen before. Abba is one good example. I somehow now appreciate their harmonies and voices.

Put it this way, I like

Super Trouper by Deep Purple (still do, that will never go away)

but I have new respect for

Super Trouper by Abba

What about my fellow R/P members? Have you come to like songs that you never gave time for now as you grow older?

    Definitely.

When I was around 10/11, I loved all that pop crud and emo music.

You know, stuff like Rihanna and My Chemical Romance.

Still embarrasses me to this day.

When I was about 13/14, I got into underground and old-school hip hop.

The likes of Nas, Brother Ali and Grandmaster Flash.

    I still like it.

At 14, I was introduced to metal by a friend.

I love metal and everything about the genre.

A few years back, if someone had told me to listen to some metal, I would've cringed and called it "that screeching satanic bull".

Metal is not just great music, it's a culture and it embeds itself into you as you listen to it.

    Boy, I've changed.

coolness, I dig both those tracks. Plus ABBA are fun as hell.

I think yes, in the sense that we can become tired of listening to the same thing - our tastes mature, and of course, sometimes it has something to do with different ideas and thoughts we have at different times in our life that influence the music we listen to.

I'm only 15, but when I was 12 I was a typical pr-teen classic rock fan. So you could say my music taste has very much expanded into other areas of rock and other genres.

I definatly have a way more open mind about music now. In high school I only listened to metal and everything else was crap haha. Now 10 years later I still listen to metal and all the bands I liked back then but I also listen to a wide range of music from classical to hip hop.

Hell no, I've always been a Classic Rocker, but you may branch out and open up to different types of music.

For example, my son has opened me up to groups like Saliva, Shinedown, Airbourne and Alter Bridge. Plus, I listen to R&B, New Wave..Love the 80'S...Metal, some punk. reggae and even Smooth Jazz. So as you get older, you'll acquire different taste, and have an newer appreciation for different types of music! : )

Getting to 50 soon enough and I still cant get over Guns and Roses , Led Zeppelin and Santana. Listen to the remake of the beatles While My Guitar Gently Weeps ( By Santana ) and you will know why.

Yeah, as the years go by I've matured and so has my musical taste. Don't get me wrong, I still watch cartoons and eat captain crunch, but I also follow politics, drink wine, and listen to Randy Newman.

  • i think as people get older they develop a more diverse musical taste. granted i'm only a teen(16) but when i younger(10-13) all i liked was my parents record/cassette/cd collection, maybe it was because thats all i ever heard, i dont know, but as i got more older(& independent) i started to develop my own musical preferences. they still include my parents stuff but also stuff they dislike,(well stuff my mom cant get into).

Well yes, but it's not really age that's causing your tastes to changed it's just time. Everything changes with time and it just so happens that that includes both age and music tastes. Personally, my tastes haven't changed, they've just grown.
