So, anybody have an idea who will get the coaching job for St. Louis?

I'm sure this has been discussed but I don't have a clue who could take LaRussa's position.

The speculation here is that they will try to get someone outside the organization like Joe Maddon (Rays), Terry Francona, or former Cards star Terry Pendleton (Braves).

The Cards will probably interview bench coach Pettini and 3rd base coach Oqendo but I don't think either of those two are serious contenders.

Edit: They are officially interviewing Francona, Oquendo, and Ryne Sandberg (I know this is hard to believe) so far.

The Cards coaches will depend on who is named the Cards manager which is only speculation at this time. Coach McGwire may stay. Coach Duncan will likely retire.

A lot of coaches may be dismissed when the Cardinals hire a new manager. Usually, managers like to pick their own coaches.

Go for Terry Francona. Stable/veteran roster with a dose of young players too. Good tradition as well. He'd be a good fit.

This is gonna scare a lot of Cards fans: Mark McGwire.

    Doubtful but possible.
