criminal record or is he in more trouble?
my friend recently sent a horrible email to my ex girlfriend after she cheated on me.she put on facebook that she reported it to the police and they would track his i.p address.how much trouble will he get into if they find out it was him?
Nahh,he just insulted her quite a lot.she's 17,he's 20 if that helps

Depends on the content of the email I'd assume... For example if he's sent her an email threatening her with violence then they police could caution or charge him for threatening behaviour.making someone in fear of violence is somewhat more serious than saying she's a good for nothing whore for example.

Expressing an opinion about someone, even if it's abusive, is not a crime as far as I'm aware. What your friend must not do is send another email to her. That could be interpreted as harassment and you can get in serious trouble for that.

Was there any direct threat to anyone's life? I mean like "Ima kill you" kind of threat. If so, maybe. That's Terroristic Threat. If it was just a bunch of name-calling, then no.
