Why doesn't my VIN number under the rain tray match the VIN number of my car?

Its a b4 passat sedan. The cover in the trunk has been replaced too, so it's not there either. The one on the passenger side to access the fuel pump/relay. The sticker on the engine has also been cut in half with a razor.

Update:

The car is insured, and I called the VW dealer about the VIN under the rain tray. (they told me that that VIN does not exist) It also has current plates and is registered, so I don't think it was stolen. I looked on vagcat.com and it has a shell listed under parts, but no part number. The first Six numbers are WVWZZZ

    Don't worry about it.

VIN numbers get changed all the time, as body parts get removed or added for various reasons.

If the VIN by the windshield left does not match the title, then I would consider make one that has the same VIN, so that police do not get confused and think there is something wrong.

The other VIN copies on the car do not matter as much.

    W - Europe manufacture location

    V - VW maker

    W - vehicle type = car

    Z - vehicle series = vanagon camper

    Z - engine, ?

    Z - restraint, ?

maybe the dashboard was replaced or you have bought a stollen/impounded car . or some people take two halves of damaged vws and weld them together to get one good vehicle. just a thought
