Although they are both common names, I'd say James Patrick simply because of the nicknames "Jimmy" and "Jim". John Patrick is still a good name though.

I love the name James and it goes very nicely with Patrick. I normally don't like Patrick but I have this combination on my list because I find it so handsome. John is very plain to me while James has some spunk to it.

John Patrick as John is my dad's name and so it's special to me.
