Closet rods without walls?

I'm trying to turn a small spare room into a walk-in closet. The only problem is that due to the weird configuration of the room, there is no place that I can run a closet rod from wall to wall. As long as there are sufficient supports anchored into studs, do you need to use end-caps to stabilize the rods themselves?

    Home Depot sells this:

ClosetMaid SuperSlide 6 ft. x 12 in. Ventilated Shelf Kit with Closet Rod for $30 which you could use. It has rods built into it. Just cut the sections to fit the room. Place the braces such that you screw into a stud. They even make a corner section so you can have a continuous row of cloths right around a corner. Make sure you space the rod hangers such that the load is equal all over.

You can hang your rod from the ceiling joists. I assume it is going to hold nothing heavier than clothes? They make metal strap fixtures that support a pole from the ceiling .
