How do I negotiate with my cable company to get a better deal?

My cable/internet/phone bill with AT & T U-Verse has gone up steadily over the past few months. Our most recent bill went up almost $10!!! We haven't added anything new and we don't use pay-for-view.

We bundled our deal when we switched from Time Warner. So we are paying for basic cable, phone, and Internet. The competition is Time Warner in my area. We switched several years ago from Time Warmer for similar reasons.

Not much has changed with Time Warner- still poor service and the prices continue to rise.

So, any ideas? Should we discontinue our landline and just use cells?

We have a very old tv and cutting off cable won't help. We would need to buy a new tv to just get the 'regular' channels.

Advice and suggestions are welcome.

You call customer service and when they say there is nothing they can do, you ask for the phone number of the RETENTION DEPARTMENT. Call them and tell them you are ready to cancel as it's becoming too expensive to stay with AT&T. Their job is to not lose current subscribers and will adjust your price for a certain length of time. About a month before it ends you should call back and ask for the current promotions available so you can continue a lower price. You'll have to repeat this procedure each time the promotions change.
